It’s not a cry for help tw8t - I’m highlighting the fact that in this day and age our unions are so weak that they can’t even argue something as basic as this

This is how we “Newbies” are treated
DP duties
Over 20 off us Newbies were encouraged to apply for full time hours on 9 day fortnight working every other Sunday - an improvement on existing Rota of 5 out of 6 Sundays
Awarded 40 hours a week
Waited 5-6 weeks for New nine day fortnight rota
Now told a few days before it starts that we will still be on five day week, no paid breaks, days up to 9.5 hours, working compulsory 5 out every 6 Sundays with Sunday hours increasing to 7.5 hours -
Unions not interested even though they put it in writing on the application sheet that it was for 9 day fortnight -
DoM says “thats it - final”
And you wonder why the majority of Newbies jack or don’t care - the company and the unions don’t give a monkeys about us
So were you all given 40 hour contracts, if so, then you're doing better than a large number of legacy contract holders who've been stuck on p/t contracts for years with no real signs they'll ever be increased. Not sure why you highlight "no paid breaks" as you must have known that was always going to be the case when you took the job?
Ffs how many times no, most newbies post strike, after supporting the strike whilst with the angencies and refusing to work on strike days, got the contracts up to 2 weeks after we started

And the duty’s were open to all 450 staff to apply - and the legacy staff have all been put on 37 hour 9 day fortnights

I’m making a point of highlighting just how weak our position is with regard to support from the union and how sh!t the company can treat us

its the old divide and conquer/rule method. split the workforce the ones on inferior contracts won't join/support the union because they feel its not supporting them and the company knows this.

The narrative that the CWU loyalists peddle is that the CWU is the innocent victim in all this. Only if they believe in the Stockholm syndrome. Every rep that fails to hold a resource meeting, fails to challenge how the post 2022 contracts fit into the duty structure, sits on the call listening to the local reps being failed, sits on the call listening to the area reps being failed, who doesn't challenge what's going on is guilty. That's how the CWU take full responsibility for what's going on. It is the CWU's fault. Don't give that failed organisation a penny.

Unless the CWU prioritise the equalising of new starter contracts with legacy ones, they are doomed to die out as no new starter is going to give a damn about subscribing to a union that doesn’t treat them as equals. The turnover of older staff is only increasing which is only emphasising how critical this really is. Also some of the posts in this thread are disgraceful and show how thick some posties can be in not seeing how they too suffer from this division in the workforce.

And lets not forget that the CWU has history when it comes to standing up for marginalised workers. This is the union that committed industrial bigotry in revenge for part time workers joining the industry. It is the union that negotiated a new grade to ensure that workers knew they were less than full time. The CWU agreed the title 'associate grade', or 'AG' for postal workers whose contracted hours were less than full time. Out of spite. The CWU is a despicable entity.

How anybody can think it is right/Ok that we have a workforce where some are paid less for doing the same work is beyond me ? Equally upsetting is the Unions role in turning a blind eye to this . Some people on here think the Union had no choice in this , which maybe was the case but that would surely be a Red Line crossed for any Union worth its Salt ? I think from that it shows how weak our Union has become and that is sad.

Newbies have traditionally always been treated really really s**t By RM it's nothing new!

But think of it as a right of passage. If you keep your head down, keep your nose clean and work really hard... in a couple of decades you'll no longer be a newbie and RM will only treat you really s**t! :nana
Sounds about right 😎

Can you please explain then why an ex phg is still paid £20 a week more than an opg for doing same work.

And how some drivers are still paid driving pay.

Because there would be a mass outcry that the CWU have bargained away our allowances should it ever happen.

I don’t believe anyone thinks it’s right but again this was implemented by the company against the wishes of the CWU.

Congratulations, you got what you wanted. Someone reacted badly to this post.

It was neither helpful nor did it add to the discussion.
