Re: Ballot timescale?
You can claim it from the start of the negotiation to the date you left employment.
I had friend who left to join the police, he tried to claim as he felt he earned that money, RM initially knocked him back until he got the Police Federation involved, he was paid the outstanding amount.

Also, how do we compare to other jobs/sectors?

Other so called 'sectors' are parcel delivery companies. Amazon. Evri. DHL. DPD. Most of them are better compensated for their labour.mjd24 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025, 17:54How did you work this out? Also, none of them deliver mail/d2ds and none of them are owned by one single person. Hope that helps

Comparing inflation figures. If our pay had kept up with inflation (Unlikely I know given how it was) but it still shows what has happened to our purchasing power over the last 3 years.mjd24 wrote: ↑09 Jul 2025, 17:54How did you work this out? Re: Ballot timescale?
Inflation between 2021–2025 adds up to around 20–22%, yet our cumulative pay increases in that time total just over 13% (2021–22: 1%, 2022–23: 2%, 2023–24: 6% + £500, 2024–25: 4.2%). That puts us at a real-terms pay cut of around 7–9% and that’s before you factor in the quiet erosion of take-home pay with cuts to sick pay, seasonal variations in hours and the loss of consistent overtime.
What’s worse is the CWU leadership’s lack of real leverage. Every time RM claims it “can’t afford” more, the union backs down. Martin Walsh and Dave Ward seem to be more focused on dragging negotiations out and eventually selling the membership a compromise that is rebranded as “the best we can get.” By the time these deals land, most staff are worn down and desperate for a few extra quid.
The Union made a big show of rejecting three pay offers and holding out for more than 4% - and here we are, being asked to vote through 4.2% - which is a bit pathetic if I'm honest. And as for the two-tier contracts - if the company won't resolve them now, then they simply won’t be resolved. End of. Because the money in the company is clearly there - £3.54 billion in retained earnings and nearly £1 billion in cash, last time I checked the balance sheet. So the argument that Martin makes on equalising new entrants would “cost too much” at £183 million really doesn’t hold water. The truth is that they can afford it - they just don’t want to.
And sadly, the CWU leadership doesn't seem willing to force the issue.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

2022 2%
2023 6%
2024 2%
2025 4.2%

Re: Ballot timescale?
Yeah my bad, but the main point is that we are still at a real terms pay cut of around 7-9% regardless.
