How long future walks.

Is it true that headquarters are in talks with Royal Mail over longer town walks than 3.5. hours. We were told it was something about protecting fulltime employment.

Ive heard its 2hr walk then back to the office for meal break then another 2hrs.

full timers extra work is inside so i dont think so cos there will be major health and safty issues for longer walks just think next year we could go down south do the london marathon posting as we jog we willl be that fit

The only way this will work is to spilt the delivery in two and have a meal break in the middle with traveling time built in to the duty and royalmail will not do that!.

Area rep told me months ago that RM are looking to increase walk span to 4 hours. Trouble is we have got guys in my office splitting walks every day going over 4 hours on a regular basis. This is ok when in your twenties but how many of the older staff will manage 4 hour delivery spans day in day out.

there should'nt be any town walks more than 3.5 hours,any longer the union rep should be asking why

Very soon all town walks will be part time and only rural duties will remain full time (because rurals have no time limit)

So it would no longer be SDD, it would be two deliveries in a day... Hmmm, now where has that been used before and declared as a waste of money..

It would as you will only be going once over the ground and it would be in effect the other half of your walk with a compulsory meal rlf in the middle with traveling time built in.

Obviously i can only go by what the walks are like down my way(London) but it does seem that you guys seem to get hammered with walk sizes.
Down here we're going for 4hr walks now with either 4x10hrs 4 day week,or 4x10hrs and 1(sat) 8hrs for a week off every 6th week.
We are doing a walk and a quarter which just makes it slightly under 4hrs or on a bad day just over.

We're going for the longer walks to protect our jobs what with the new super dooper machines coming in.
A Lon DIV rep did say at a meeting that a walk using pouch boxes and lasting 3-30hrs will give you more fatigue than a walk lasting 4 hrs using a trolley.
This was tested by the CWU along with h&s people.

4hr walks i think will be the norm within the next few years,i think it will hurt a few people and the staff turn over could go mental.
To keep full time jobs we'll have to do more outside,which is all good on paper,but i think a lot of people will struggle.

I can see my office making Tuesday a 6 hour SA.Say for example mon,wed,thurs and Fri are 10 hour days this would be possible with a extra bag or two on our current walks.or 4x10hrs and 1(sat) 8hrs for a week off every 6th week.
