What will employees accept as a fair, realistic pay offer? Personally I think it should never be over 3 years. Future inflation rate predictions can only realistically be made for the next 12 months maximum, especially in the current volatile world in which we live. So current rate 3.4%,planned to peak a little higher in the next quarter, then fall to maybe 2.5% by quarter 2 next year. So a realistic offer,I am not saying fair, but a realistic offer, could be 4% for April 25-April 26.
Inflation is forecast to reach the governments target of 2% towards the later part of 2026,possibly early 2027. So a realistic offer for April 26-April 27 could be 2.5%. Then you reach the realms of guesswork for April 2027-Apr 2028. A realistic offer for that period? 2.5%-3.5%?
So in the round a realistic offer would be 9 or 10 % over 3 years.
Let’s see.

Maybe even a small lump sum to get it over the line.

The way some people go on makes me feel like some people will never be happy. The reason for a multi-year paydeal is fairly obvious.... in order for the new entrants to have pay parity, rectified over 3 or 4 years, whatever the deal is, a benchmark needs to be set in order for the new entrants to be able to catch up. Personally I would like any future pay deals to be set against CPI/RPI, ie (legacy staff) RPI + 2% etc, and new entrants RPI +2% + the 5% catch up etc.
Placing unnecessary pressure on the union only gives RM extra room to manoeuvre, with them knowing the workforce is split and not giving the union the tools to use whatever leverage they have.
Seeing some of the attitudes in the DO, it absolutely does not surprise me to see the short-sightedness of some on this forum.

The CWU released an interview with the top dogs a couple of weeks back, where they say they turned down 3 offers, all above 3%. Please don't rely on any source of information, other than from the people concerned with the negotiations, ie. the CWU or RMSputters2017 wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025, 11:43Just googled royal mail pay rise 2025 ..it's come up as we will get 3%
Critical thinking is needed, it stops the spread of mis-information.
