No, they'd be very unlikely to be standing whilst on the phone. Those conference calls go on a while. From what I've heard they sound more like a bourgeois 'Struggle Session' from the Cultural Revolution.Clappedoutpostie wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 22:24I though you were talking about my manager until u said about not getting the tracks done.heraldmoth wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 21:57Can you imagine a job where you come in to work and then work on your own terms, stand on the phone for a half hour then pop onto a meeting with a colleague that has nothing to do with you and then come out and take you meal break and then go to your boss and say it’s nearly 11 now I won’t even get all my tracks done…..then drop the bombshell that you need released a day later in the week for another meeting with vague details……..if you can imagine all this, this is life as a rep

Is anyone else sick and and tired or contempt and sarcasm that's directed at the people that have fought the majority of their working lives fighting to better their colleagues terms and conditions.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 16:52
Is anyone sick and tired of the contempt and sarcasm members receive from our CWU officials? I get they must hear the same thing over and again but I find it wholly unprofessional when they respond in this way. Gives off holier than thou vibes and makes you wonder what they really think of us all. It makes me wonder if they truly don't understand the discontent that exists within the rank and file and the hardships of the day to day of the job.
Comments on Facebook that just attack for the sack of attack.
They put an update they get abused for the lack of detail in the update.
They don't put an update up and the comments start circulating. "For a communications union they don't communicate much".
Keyboard warriors.
Maybe they should rise above it at times but must get frustrating when they are trying to engage with members and the just get abused.

Absolutely not. They are in a position of authority and tasked and paid by its membership to improve their working lives. They are in essence in the employment of its members. It is Transactional. Those members absolutely have the right to criticise and query how things are being done and what is happening with their money without essentially being told to sit down and shut up. Put down with sarcasm and contempt.Mickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑02 Jul 2025, 04:01Is anyone else sick and and tired or contempt and sarcasm that's directed at the people that have fought the majority of their working lives fighting to better their colleagues terms and conditions.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 16:52

Even the term "Keyboard warrior" grates me as its essentially another term telling someone to sit down and shut up. How dare they express an opinion. The whole point of social media is to invite conversation and debate. If the union don't like that they need to move over to someone who can respect that reality. Turn off the comments, send out a bulletin. The issue being, those criticisms, opinions and conversations done cease to exist. They just happen in private and spread around offices anyway. The union should be grateful they have an opportunity to see how people and truly feeling and thinking. Instead of just rolling their eyes.
People are angry, tired and fed up. Not everyone see's the same posts and replies so when you have an audience of thousands of course you are going to see repeats. Which should ring alarm bells with our officials.

Politicians get massive criticism as they should as they represent us and are paid by us.
The CWU gets massive criticism as they should as they represent us and are paid by us.
It's part of the job to get criticism even if it's unfair. Any CWU official should respond professionally to fair and unfair criticism.

I agree, just pointing out he's not one of the Broadway lot.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑01 Jul 2025, 19:42Area rep is a full time released position is it not? That to me makes you an official and a representative of the union. Its kinda in the name area rep. With that I think they should act professionally, absorb the criticism and not wind up and give sarcastic comments to their paying members. It only serves to diminish the unions standing.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

I get that and when I say keyboard warriors I'm referring to those that personally attack those at the top of the union and make disparaging comments about their appearance and character.
No relevance or constructive questioning and queries.
Things they would probably never say to someone in person.
Maybe they do react badly and defensively at times but is a natural reaction at times when you receive and barrage of abuse as well being constantly branded as incompetent.
They are human too.
Same thing happens on all social media platforms with individuals who are in the public eye.
People think it's acceptable to judge them and say whatever they want.
General questioning and constructive criticism should be welcomes but nine times out of ten it isn't that.

Yeah, but let's not pretend that it is just a handful of keyboard warriors making it personal. A lot of frustration comes from genuine questions being ignored or brushed aside or even met with sarcasm from the Union itself. Honestly, if the CWU leaders acted with a bit more transparency and respect then maybe they wouldn't be constantly branded as "incompetent" because that reputation wasn't built by Facebook trolls alone was it?
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Of course it is acceptable to judge them and criticize when you feel they deserve it
They chose to do this...
CWU collects £27 million of our money in subs...
They are supposed to be experts at this - or hire experts who are on our behalf...
It is their job to defend us and get the best deal possible....

Re: Contempt from our CWU officials on social media.
The new contracts were not negotiated.
The were brought in during the strikes when the two parties were not negotiating.
The wages for the legacy contracts are not almost minimum wage.
EP are committed to adhere to the agreements that outlined late last year and systematically they will come to fruition in my opinion.
Equalisation of contracts, increase of overtime rates, reversing of the new sick policy e.t.c.
The first probably being today, a pay rise in line or above inflation.
lets not forget the ultimate aim of the company during the strikes.
Self employed van owners picking up the majority of our packet/parcel growth in an Amazon flex gig economy dystopia.
What is the majority of our work now, oversized and parcels.
Let's not pretend the union are the enemy here.
In a market and environment that have given them little leverage in negotiations I think they have managed to keep our jobs far from 'dog shite' in the last decade.
They never get the credit they deserve.
Mistakes are made, like with everyone but their successes are never acknowledged.

I’d agree with a lot of that and I’d add that if we were in a company making a billion in profit then the union is in a much stronger negotiating position.Mickeybrowneyes wrote: ↑03 Jul 2025, 04:56The new contracts were not negotiated.

That also doesn’t mean they haven’t made mistakes because they’ve made some pretty amateur ones in the last few years.

They can busrt into tears when they make the announcement today like Rachel. Criticism and sarcasm comes with the territory. You put yourself on a pedestal and people will knock you down. Unless you live in Russia or North Korea. The few decent politicians and Union reps will always find the respect they deserve. Most sadly are there for the easy life.
