When sorting flats last night, I noticed an increase in the amount of 1C.
Probably the fallout from that letter RM sent to businesses last month telling them of their pre-emptive plans. Since rollout is reportedly on hold that would presumably boost revenue from converting DSA and 2C volumes to 1C this summer.
The DTS (at least locally) tends to be about 50% deferred every night unless there's a bulk posting or a shitload of mail hits the 5 day limit. When it does all start proper MCs will sort 1C and 2C on separate frames and box them up separately. All them boxes will then go onto the same yorks and out to the DOs. It'll be down to the DOs if the 2C trays that we send out with the 1C trays go to the IPS or get held somewhere in the DO.

I really don’t get all this holding mail and sending it out on the 5th day.
Surely that decision is only made on what mail is available for each specific address in the walk sequenced. In other words you can go to an address with a 200ft path every day of the week with manual sorted mail, parcels or specials but no sequenced mail. Consequently mail is held at the MC until that crucial 5th day (which somehow always seems to be the Saturday) and then released. Guess what…….the day they decide to release the held mail that’s all you walk up the path with!!!!! Yep another great idea. I don’t think there’s any other reason than to hold a load of mail until the Saturday then release it all in one go to make that the heaviest day of the week! The reason why??? We all know that everything they do is to demoralise and break the delivery staff. Very very strange and bullying behaviour.

That's not the traffic profile that's being used. Whatever is presented to DO's will be worked as per the new method. If there is to be any holding of traffic it will be held back at the processing point.

Well you can dream on. Where we keep the yorks of trays of sorted manual letters and flats on nights is work space on earlies and lates. Earlies and especially lates use up all floor space.

1C trays will have white labels, 2C trays the labels will be white with green stripes. All them trays will be going onto the same yorks and will be sent out to the DOs together.

The pipe line has to change otherwise the new method will not work. The days of everything being deliveries problem are well and truly over.

The USO Pilot Update is one long trauma story. It is clear and clear from my expedience in a pilot office, that managers and planners have ignored any advice given to put a ‘bum on every seat’ and add a certain number of walks back in, before starting any pilot.

All they are now occupied with doing is fighting fires. Whole thing is an absolute farce.

Too right, I fully understand the reason for the dts system but I know for a fact that quite a high proportion of the addresses that get bombarded with letters always on a Friday or Saturday have had mail or parcels most days previously so I suspect it's flawed in that it's not communicating with anything that isn't coming in the sequence trays, maybe that will change, maybe under the new owner they'll put a stop to it possibly by increasing prices as it's obviously a product they don't really want as it requires lots more staff

Even if it's too hard for the work shy in the MC's to put the trays in to separate Yorks, is it really that hard to put two completely different colours on the tray labels?

I doubt it can communicate with anything not in the sequenced? Do RM actually use the bar codes on the stamps to check for anything but fraudulent use of the stamps?

The CWU should have made RM stick to the original idea of duties being made 20% shorter, not made our days longer!

Definitely, they went for the obvious easy option with no regard whatsoever to the impact of being out on delivery in all weather for all f***ing hours.

Apart from the 1C and 2C being in separate trays, there are NO changes to the pipeline.

Having two sets of yorks will never happen, it takes up too much space both on the floor and in the lorries. Having white labels with green stripes was the standard years ago back when 1st and 2nd used to be in separate trays, there's no reason why it can't be used now.

Where an item has a 2D barcode with the address encoded into it, I suspect that eventually that data will feed into the DTS system. The algorithm that generates the DTS data that the CSS machines use gets run at 22:00, they've improved the efficiency of it so our machines now get the data earlier, enabling us to start the machines earlier. If RM ever manage to get all parcels to have 2D barcodes with the delivery address encoded into them then the % of mail deferred by the DTS will change.

The reason that the places get hit with loads of mail on a Friday or Saturday is that mail has hit the 5 day limit and any other letters for them addresses automatically gets released as well.

We are a pilot office and one of the problems we are seeing is the mail centre mixing first class in with the second, even in a tray clearly marked second class, resulting in us having to check each tray manually - we also see this regularly in a tray full of missorts...
