I think we are going to have to disagree. Towards the end of his tenure he wasn't even allowed in the negotiating room. He was told to slide off quietly and that he did. I don't think he really succeeding in anything. We are 3 years on without him and the business has made very little progress in the change he was charged with and allot of the concessions that were made are now up for renegotiation.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 17:32Simon wasn’t outed or ousted. It was more a case that his job and brief were both done. His reign saw the union stronghold irrevocably broken. Arguably it is only because of the progress made under his stewardship that EP Group has taken full ownership.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 16:35I wonder if she knows that this is going to get nasty and doesnt want anything to do with it. Given that Simon Thompson was essentially outed as an idiot and pretty much had a break down. Id certainly be walking away if it were me and wanted to keep my reputation in one piece.

Re: Emma Gillthorpe stands down as CEO
He is the face of the CWU dismantling effort and did his job to a tee including, somehow miraculously avoiding perjury charges whilst lying under oath. Unbelievable yet very believable considering the state of RM now.Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 19:10I think we are going to have to disagree. Re: Emma Gillthorpe stands down as CEO
Simon’s brief from the outset was to break the union’s stronghold and dominance. He overwhelmingly succeeded. I agree that we will have to agree not to agree :-)Ren Hoëk wrote: ↑19 Jun 2025, 19:10I think we are going to have to disagree. There is only so many boats. Yaughts. Mansions... cars... property..
Gold.. silver... diamonds. Jets.. planes.. helicopters.. and the rest of the bullshit.. he can buy....
""All right, but apart from the sanitation, the medicine, education, wine, public order, irrigation, roads, the fresh water system, and public health, what have the Romans ever done for us?"
There are evidently lots of things to spend wealth on.

Re: Emma Gillthorpe stands down as CEO
They made such a song and dance about Emma becoming CEO, I don't think she was notable for doing anything? Other than sending out a premature declaration to change the USO without Ofcoms approval.

Emma Gilthorpe was just following in the steps of every other CEO of RM. Took the cash and ran away lol, same as CWU Dave and his cronies. DK will be breaking the business for spares in no time.

Re: Emma Gillthorpe stands down as CEO
Yep, Thompson got his golden parachute—£700,000 for job done, courtesy of Ward & Co’s last "groundbreaking" agreement: the informal dismantling of the USO and the scorched-earth against jobs and T & C's.
It’s time to draw a line under this nonsense that the revolving door of CEOs has anything to do with benefiting postal workers. It has everything to do with preparing the next stage of collusion between the union bureaucracy and the owners. That’s been the game since privatisation. The company knows how to look after its own and shield itself from liability. What postal workers need is the same ruthless approach towards the sellout merchants claiming to speak in their name, while collecting baubles and accolades from the other side. That’s the personnel change that really needs addressing.
As for Gilthorpe’s exit, are we supposed to believe she suddenly went rogue on USO reform and naming the start date? She was appointed CEO of Royal Mail Group by Seidenberg himself. Its equally risible that Ofcom hasn’t already signed off on USO reform—they issued a 198-page report supporting it, including the gem that the current USO “over-caters” for the public and waxed lyrical about £425 million of cost cutting.
For the record : CWU comms department plastered on the union FB page Seidenberg’s fanfare announcement of Gilthorpe’s appointment on May 1, 2024, without a word of criticism. His statement read:
“I am delighted to announce the appointment of Emma as CEO of Royal Mail Group. Emma has an impressive track record of delivering major strategic change programmes whilst driving up performance. She will bring a customer and employee-centric approach to delivering Royal Mail’s transformation for the benefit of all our stakeholders, and I look forward to working closely with her to ensure Royal Mail reaches its true potential.”
What’s happened with Gilthorpe is a case of hubris. The real lesson is this: these people aren’t all-powerful, but for anything positive to change workers have to take matters out of the hands of those that sell them down the river every time.

And where were you when that happened?
You make a lot of noise now but where were you when the real battle was being fought (and lost).
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Didn't we try that striking during peak and RM just laughed at us with their multi billion pound strike busting fund? The days of UK employees having any power have long gone.stage3 wrote: ↑20 Jun 2025, 17:05Yep, Thompson got his golden parachute—£700,000 for job done, courtesy of Ward & Co’s last "groundbreaking" agreement: the informal dismantling of the USO and the scorched-earth against jobs and T & C's.

Re: Emma Gillthorpe stands down as CEO
Aye, I looked into this and he was the Chief Operating Officer at Whistl which used a cheaper, casualised workforce to undercut RM. RM wants people at the top who know how to undermine long standing terms and conditions, exploit regulatory loopholes and drive through reforms under the guise of competitiveness. Alarm bells ringing already on this one.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.
