Royalmailservice - epetition reply
15 April 20087
We received a petition asking:
"We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to Run the ROYAL MAIL as a 1st class PUBLIC SERVICE , not a MONEY FIRST, PEOPLE LAST, profit at the customers experience business."
Details of petition:
"Royal Mail should be run as a public service for the 60 Million people that it delivers to within the UK, not the few hundred top companies that it panders to at the present..... 1st. class service should mean just that ! They should be concentrating on delivering SERVICE to the public FIRST....Profit making second!"

Read the Government's response
Since March 2001, Government's role in Royal Mail is that of a shareholder in a public limited company. The Government has given the Royal Mail Group greater commercial freedom and has established an arm's length relationship so that the Board can structure the business as it decides best to meet the challenges of market development and changing customer needs.
Royal Mail operates on a commercial basis but is licensed to provide a universal postal service throughout the UK. In 2006/7, Royal Mail has delivered to its customers the best-ever annual quality of service against target in 2006/7 with 94% of first class mail was delivered the next day, against a target of 93%. This achievement is down to the hard work and dedication of Royal Mail's postmen and women throughout the country.
Business mail is an important source of revenue for Royal Mail. It accounts for around 86% of mail conveyed by the company. Social mail only accounts for 14% of mail delivered. Business mail helps to keep the prices for social mail in the UK amongst the lowest in Europe. Royal Mail aims to meet the needs of both social and business users and their success is reflected in the improved quality of service they are providing.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Please not the sentence " This achievement is down to the hard work and dedication of Royal Mail's postmen and women throughout the country".
Are these the same "dedicated" postmen and women who only received approx. 92p bonus in their pay for productivity savings, not so long ago, and Adam Crozier picking up an extremely obscene bonus in his!
