Post Office Closures

Post by Lounge Lizard »

If it has recently been announced that my local Post Office is due to close, can I protest and campaign against the decision like any other member of the public or am I meant to keep quiet as a Royal Mail employee ?

we had a post office in macclesfield which had 4 collections a day!!! it was situated in the middle of a lot of companies,on a main road and every collection was a good half a van load!! it was deemed not viable as not enough people were using it!!!! it was probably one of the most busy in the whole area!!! the local people tried to stop the closure ............ after the all the objections it closed anyway! a forgone conclusion!! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh

Likewise, there's one near here, on a trunk road, with parking, gets half a van load each collection, on the closure list, and certain to close. But you haven't answered my question.

Some of the posters we were provided with during the strikes last year were aimed at saving post offices so as long as you make it clear you are acting as a Concerned Citizen, and not in an official capacity then you should be ok. Of course if you are in Uniform and are asked a question you will either have to refuse to answer or trot out the party line, or state "In my personal opinion .............". Of course I have no idea if my summation is correct in law, but we do live in a democracy and you do hold personal opinions so as long as you are careful I can't see it being a problem.
