Free Stamps for Christmas - A bit outdated now.

Post by Krafty »

I'm not grumbling about the stamps we receive each christmas but I just noticed them on the table next to my computer which I've not used many of.

I sell the odd thing on ebay and over the years I used the stamps for this, but everything is done online now.
The stamps are just about redundant.

Find a reason to use them. Send a card, a letter. Stamps are far from redundant.

If every RM employee used all their stamps each year that would put a stop to letter decline for sure.

I would use them at the post office when posting items I've sold on ebay but they can't be used for tracked :arrrghhh

No it wouldn't!

If every free stamp was used to send 1 letter, it would add about 0.1% onto the total letters delivered by RM.

I found a load of old Xmas stamps without the barcode. Are they still valid?

Like the idea that everyone before 1492 thought the world was flat, it's a company-sanctioned fairytale that stamped letters ever constituted anything close to a majority of what was posted. Retail finance and utilities were the cornerstone of mail volumes - you'd see far greater impact if everyone insisted their bank and water/electricity/gas provider sent out statements. Naturally those were the first to go to DSA before disappearing completely.
The machine stops.

I dunno, 50 letters x what, 100,000 employees? Quite a few letters I reckon.

If 100,000 employees sent 50 letters each, it’s a 0.075 increase. Royal Mail delivered 6.6 billion letters in 23/24. An extra 5 million (just 96000 extra letters a week) doesn’t even touch the sides.
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

I was going on 120,000 employees and 6 billion letters a year, but my maths is the same as yours. :thumbup

Whatever the exact numbers are, the free stamps are a drop in the ocean. :cuppa
