How many folks here have had a raging Akita, Alsatian, Pit bull, XL, Collie etc have a go at you on the street or even at someones front door or garden?

Small dogs are the worst, esp Jack Russell's they wait until your back is turned and will go to nip your ankles.
I'm a dog owner and sense when a dog is approachable or not.
What does my head in is the twats trying to hold back a snarling dog with a quarter open door with their feet and they gotta sign for a large parcel.
Shut the friggin dog in a room.

Any loose dog I would just avoid unless you know it to be harmless. The small ones are the ones who will want to have a pop.

I was bitten twice on my rounds.

The first time, the dog came from an open back door. First time covering that round. I was threatened with conduct by my manager for accessing a property with a dog loose (it came from the back door).
Moaned at by the old dear who lived there who said my manager had been round and threatened to have the dog put down.
Criticised by the duty holder for going in (it came from the back door).
Ridiculed at the walk in centre when I showed teeth marks/blood and said I was worried about rabies or something ‘we haven’t had rabies for years, what a ridiculous thing to say.’

It seems to be the RM way: an accident at work? Definitely your fault.

The next time I was bitten I sorted things myself.

I opened a porch door to drop a parcel in the porch. A very aggressive alsation went berserk, luckily I shut the door before the dog could leap. I had a go at the owner when she came rushing out, basically if you must leave the dog there then lock the porch door. In the end she conceded I had a point. Of course, nobody likes to be told off even when in the wrong so they're a bit huffy now.
I've seen kids under ten helping their dads deliver leaflets. Imagine!

Are dog owners even aware that they should be considerate of delivery workers? or are most dog owners oblivious or nonchalant towards this?

We have posters in our office warning dog owners to keep their dogs out of the way, but these are on walls only posties can see, not the public. I get that posties can be dog owners too, but do Royal Mail even make the public aware of what we expect of them if they own a dog. I've never seen Royal Mail create a leaflet for us to post about it, and don't believe I've seen any adverts on TV about it.

Is it widely known by dog owners that they shouldn't have a dog loose on their property as there are delivery people around?

Of course dog owners can have their dog loose on their property. They just have to be responsible when needed.

Well obviously my comments relate to where a dog could come into contact with a delivery person.

Why the heck would I be referring to people having dog's loose in their back garden which is fenced and gated off and where delivery people don't need to go to. That goes without saying that it is absolutely fine to have their dog's 'loose' in that way.

My favourite dog owners are the ones that make absolutely no attempt to control their dog and then get aggressive at you when you say "Could you control your dog please?"
