So what is the process in becoming a manager at royal mali? Obviously you would speak to your manager and find out but before that does anyone on here have any info?

My questions are really:

What do trainee managers get payed? (yes at the very bottom entry point of management.)

Is it really difficult to end up being a DOM on a good wage?

Is there lots of competition?

I have a feeling a lot of these trainee managers just remain at this level witout progressing up the ladder is this true?

The reason I ask I believe it's time to move on to pastures new and I would like to have a go at management. Obviously the first step would be looking close to home where I am already employed and on a stable income. Also looking at the career paths Aldi and like offer..

You will become an “Acting” manager for the best part of 5-10 years.In that time you will be used, abused & talked over.
You will be able to apply for positions that come up but if your face don’t fit & your attitude is not the one RM wants to portray you have no chance.
Any pride you have needs to be put to one side, you are just a minion to be ordered around.
Success is not necessary a positive, failure in RM also gets rewarded so a few bullying cases against you is probably required before you climb said ladder.
Intelligence is definitely NOT required.
I would try elsewhere but goodluck, you will need it!

Thanks, ye my managers are absolutely useless and I believe I can do a better job. I have a feeling 1 of them is pals with the area manager, probably friends from school that is why he is climbing the ladder even though he doesnt do anything. Doesnt care and is useless

One of the things they do or should I say don't do is go around the office on a morning and see who needs help (that is on offer), which rounds arent covered, wich rounds are busting at the seems with quadrouple mail yet they will help someone who has a small round that is mostly clear without even looking at the state of play, then panicking that the worst rounds are left to get even worse..

The managers between the 2 of them and the Doms support can't even work a simple rota out and fail to realise on a daily basis that some people have their day off and their round is uncovered lol. This is really basic stuff.

I heard it’s about an extra £20 a day if you take an acting up job, that’s what one of the blokes at ours said when he did it for a couple of weeks afew years back before deciding it wasn’t worth the hassle. For that u will be expected to cover at offices 40/50 miles away whilst the fully paid managers will always make sure u are the late manager and deal with the s**t whilst they are sat at home not answering their phones.

I know managers that were posties and now back down to posties. The latest one told me her wage was around £100 more than a postie but it came with a price of people calling you asking you what they are on the next day, dealing with sickness and juggling people around whilst pressure from the DOM and you can go to any office within a 30 mile radius plus you will need to work some Sunday shifts. (that applied to our section). She openly admitted life was better as a postie and would rather work her day out with not much difference in wage.

£400 extra a month is still not bad though. I thought they was on similar wage to us to be honest.

Gunna have to have a think about it, the Aldi management schemes seem a bit more appealing but obviously that is a jump changing companies completely.

They do less than managers and that’s saying something.

Yes the manager advertised the role, about 12 people put there name forward! Yet it was al forgotton about and no one even got an interview. Everyone knows you get £35/£40 week extra for doing nothing!

Every unit should have a trainee role, a
Shouldn’t be too hard to get you COM/DOM to set this up also ask him about the future managers programme I believe there will be a new enrolment for this in October it’s an apprenticeship role 1 day study 4 days workplace

No chance, the managers favourite gets to be the workplace coach.

The WPC was recently relaunched at £44pw. The intention is that the WPC will have numerous responsibilities and the days of it being money for nothing are over. If the process hasn't been followed and you applied ask what's happened.
