French move into UK mail

THE French postal service yesterday launched the latest competitive threat to ROYAL MAIL.

LA POSTE, owned by the French government, has bought a controlling stake, worth around £20million, in sorting firm BTB MAILFLIGHT.

And it could lead to La Poste’s yellow vans, a familiar sight in France, hitting Britain’s streets.

La Poste said BTB Mailflight — whose customers include publisher IPC, Harrods and Laura Ashley — was a platform for UK expansion.

It has an operation in Slough, La Poste UK, that handles international mail for business customers.

But the latest deal will let it compete directly with Royal Mail by providing collection and sorting before “final mileâ€

Bad move. THey will end up as a modern day Consignia. THeir own domestic business is ripe for competition due to their inability to modernise and the tight grip their union has.

The UK market is not ripe for competition and La Poste coming in and understanding the UK will find this out either the easy or hard way.

No but it could be the start of an International day of Industrial action if they tried something we did not agree with .

I will say it again. Whilst competitors only work under DSA licences there is little or no profit margin. Quite simple. With another major competitor coming into the market the margins will squeezed even further.

The only winners so far are big business customers who have been able to knock 5%+ off their postage bills.

If anyone disagrees with me then show me the figures. I have studied this matter in some detail, possibly more detail than almost anyone else in this country.

If there is anyone from La Poste coming on here and want to save some money and time pm me and I'll charge you a fair price for some simple straight forward economic advice on the stte of the UK postal industry. The alternative is to waste a lot of time and money and go back to France with your tail between your legs.
