As France's La Poste, edges further into the UK postal market with the acquistion of BTB MAILFLIGHT, a UK business which handles international mail for business customers, the unlevel playing field being experienced by Royal Mail becomes more obvious.

Postcomm is determined to allow the competition to grow even more before finally taking the brakes off for Royal Mail - still heavily regulated, and maintains that Royal Mail must be more creative in terms of new products and to press on with being more efficient.

What seems to be happening is that Royal Mail is being given the 'donkey work' whilst rivals continue to chew their way into Royal Mail's only really profitable work - business mail. Even that is under threat from a diversity of Hybrid Mail systems and other operators, all taking advantage of downstream access, where competitors can get RoyalMail to actually deliver the mail, for less money.

In any event, we really are reaching a point where the market has to see sweeping changes in terms of greater deregulaton and decide how best the universal service is to be funded. For the moment, Royal Mail is being told that it must do all the delivery work and watch it's profits go to rivals - until Postcomm decides otherwise.

All I can say is White must be in a good mood this week. Best one was Lawson's piece today on hybrid mail. Lifted the lid on the whole business and well researched I thought. Most of the crap written about hybrid mail is all spin anyway. Good to see it as it really is.

Well lets be truly competetive and just deliver to 13% of the UK .Massive cost savings ,super profits ,in commercial terms an absolute no brainer. But I guess our 'real' customers won't be to happy dropping 26% of their coverage ,since their most lucrative customers by enlarge do not live in a two bed terrace in Deptford

Pity the rest of the forum doesn't know who you are - then they could all have a laugh at that one.

So keep on moving, moving, moving your feet
Keep on shuf-shuf-shuffling to this ghost dance beat
Just keep on walking down never ending streets

Did I miss the party?

Hmmm, I might be frosty but I'm certainly not the admin of Hellmail. Neither is my name Crozer. I don't wind people up either - they wind themselves up. They may not agree with me and thats fine. Lots of things I do agree on too but I'm not a union man and that makes me a misfit by default. I can live with that too:)

Amber Leaf is a bird ! , she was the union bashing wheeler dealer business woman who just happened to have brothers who worked for RM and found a lot of time in her busy schedule to go on the computer !

There was a article by Clare ? ( Amber Leaf) -Sounds like RM OR RM are using PR people as it's laid on too thick and of course patronizing .

I did get pulled when starting by Postman for mentioning the DUM Moderator from Hell Boggie 40 as there was a chance he'd come on here and all hell would break loose on line . He didn't last long on here the top union lads saw him off with a flea in his ear .

The usual road to Damuscus type after late 80's strikes . They keep their advertisers happy end of .

Amber Leaf evidently before my time but Norb is about right. Mind you, I'm not sure what all the fuss is about on White's piece anyway - does it not support our argument? If it said La Poste was to be welcomed I could understand it, but it slates Postcomm as far as I can see. No point in being anal about articles/comments that actually stick up for us - jeesh we get little support as it is.

The best critique of Postcon was a Guardian Article by Will Hutton ( Keynesian Economist Journalist who who bucked the trend with The State we're in & The State to come bestsellers) which was printed in "Voice " .

He wiped the floor with Postcon branding them a bunch of failed Tory Freemarketers / ideologues living a parallel universe who think they are doing RM a favour with costcutting and handicapping to make RM more efficient . Not quite so simple ?

RM's problems go back years to Brown as Chancellor and his Shareholder Executive who appointed all these City Banker types who brought in their own people , Hatchet Men like our beloved L&C to " best serve the shareholders" and "increase the value of these publicly owned companies" by whatever means .Forget all about public service these people are on big bonuses no matter what , USO etc ,Post Office Ad Ken Dawson and Auntie Joan at the SPO etc .

Stephen Byers as DTI ( The Ultimate Employer ) Minister brought Leighton in as he'd experience with anti Union Walmart as the CWU were seen as a problem and a barrier to .

People like Brown bring these people in as they know their own Ministers are not up to the job , look at the Railways and tax payers being taken to the cleaners especially with Metronet , Beardie Branson , Northern Wreck , Inland Revenue /Customs , Social Security etc .

The likes of Branson are laughing all the way to the bank , £24 million off his overcrowded , overpriced trains though he only owns 49% . The City types love New Labour, all the risk underwritten and markets rigged and mega profits guaranteed .

The problems are is the supposedly neutral Civil Service is heavily influenced by Brown's City types and this tendency to go for these "" Personalty" people put in to run things , they may have been arguably good in certain fields , but are a disaster out of them i.e. Reg Holdsworth as RM Chairman etc .

Brown does have problems at the moment , Senior New Labour Parliamentary Committee members complain of him having no control over his Ministers and not knowing which way to jump or what he's doing .
People are unsure what Brown is for or if there's anything behind all this rhetoric he parrots out , that's why you've got such a dithering and bungling government . There's also panic with elections in-eminent .

Hellmail look after their advertisers end of , however they've finally realized that there will be no Crown and SPO's for smaller businesses to take all their Reggies and Recorded mail to and Big Al is more concerned with big profitable s**** that nobody wants .

Hellmail complained of too much dirty linen coming out as the top union lads challenged the empty rhetoric being parroted out, and political hijacking ; there can only be politics on Planet Hellmail if it has a right wing union bashing bias for the privateers benefit .

Anybody who had the misfortune to be a member of the Postman crap forum will remember the poster known as 'Hellmail', and there was no big secret as to who he was. Well Night Tonic uses exactly the same prose and text as 'Hellmail' did, especially when summarising a paragraph.

Night Tonic has also stated on here that he runs his own site, which he has subtly described as being 'A Firey Plane'. Hell i can't think where that could possibly be!!

Also anybody who checks through Night Tonic's posts will notice how fond he is of using the dash - which is probably pure coincidence but if you read Steve Lawson's article on Hellmail you will notice he is also very fond of using the dash - particularly when summarising.

However i suppose i had better say that it is all pure speculation!

Obviously guessing the true identity of "Night Tonic" is the new game in town.
Seems like not following the "Bovine Herd" has made you a subject of intense, but ultimately pointless, speculation, NT?
[Speaking of which there's an article on the RM IntraNet re the CWU, Unite and RM forming a group to find ways to combat the effects of falling mail volumes (currently 2-3% pa); looks like the CWU are in on the Great Mail Volume Scam too..]
