Manual mail will just be sorted to office. For the mech to be sequenced for vertical prep, every DO will need to make sure that all their data for their walks on Route Planner is up to date. Given how little 1C there is, I can't see it being viable to just have 1C sorted on its own. If you take out all the 2C and DSA there's not much left.

They are meant to be sorting out the walks on route planner. 1c won’t be framed in - I assume. I think it will just stay in a tray for the parcel person. But all of this imagines that they will organise it properly. There has been no evidence of this so far.

Have they said what any mail from abroad will be classed as?

We've had virtually no info abut how it's going to work in the MC and what changes will be made. I only knew that there's going to be a realignment from reading the forum.

They have said nothing about international mail. Not one word. I’ve read everything produced about the whole thing and even as they were telling us the MC would be doing this or that, in Newton Mearns where it had started, it hadn’t been organised like that at all.

I’ll be amazed if it ever gets to us, such is the level of nothing happening.

At £1.70 a pop, it is surely more than viable for 1C to be sorted separately at the MC? We have been told 90% of it will be done at MC level, though we will have two IPS frames in our DO to manually do the other 10% that won’t come sorted to walk.

Presumably mail from abroad will be lumped in with everything else that isn't 1st class why would it be anything else, I suspect you're overthinking it again.

Getting back on track with the thread title, I just can't get on board with the fact it will be all doom and gloom for staff who don't drive for RM, certainly whilst there is still all items 5 days a week. There will be worse duties in the office, and I know it's not a race to the bottom, but hear me out.
It seems we are going full circle from the first idea of non driving duties having a Mon-Fri attendance, to CWU saying that isn't happening due to unfairness, to it actually being the only practical solution to The CWU/RM proposal to cut letters on a Saturday, then every other day during the week. Staff, in particular those who don't perform driving duties didn't ask for 1 of the potential 6 days a week they work to made redundant, remember that - it ain't THEIR fault. Mon to Fri with 3 days of letters on some of those days (90% call rate) but every weekend off? Put that option on the board and it will be over subscribed in seconds.
The worst duties to get in this new way of working will be ones where you have to drive, but expected to do the walking side of a shared van coupled with parcels only on a Saturday. I'd expect the parcel only routes (doing parcels and 1C for duty 1 and 2 one day, then 3 and 4 duty the next) will be allocated to senior staff who won't manage the physical side of the new way, add onto that ring fenced duties etc.
It's only a matter of time non drivers will be mon- fri not gonna be popular right enough but hey ho.

2C now goes from the outward MC to the inward MC in separate trays (labels with green stripes for the 2C trays). If they are going to hold back the 2C and then sort it every other day, that's not going to work once it gets busy again in the autumn. Neither nights or earlies will have enough staff for that to work, we'll end up failing some 2C which will then have to go out to the DOs for non 2C days
