If any ones missing the point you are!! We are not bloody machines that you can just reprogramme to do more and more. Who else can you point out thats walking around the streets with bags that can have total weights of anything around 100kgs and more As far as i am aware all our so called competitors drive vans. How exhausting having to drive round with all that weight in the back, i dont think!!! The only people who think theres no problem with extending walks more and more are the young and the terminally stupid. Which category do you fall in?
neither unfortunately just a realist its a simple fact more jobs will go in the future and when that has reached a level that is no longer sustainable the walk length will increase thats a fact.

Actually I think its more likely they will keep the walk length the same because they already have a far greater sickness level now, then they had before SDD was introduced, and if they make walks longer then even the most inhumane managers will realise sickness will increase even further.
Also with indoor work there is much more scope for savings and reduction of contracts. I think therefore it is more likely that in the future there may be less people sorting and throwing up walks, with bags being sent out to staff who will never come into a DO as their duty will be preprepared for them and sent out to an agreed safe drop.
Also longer walks means longer contracts for Part timers and therefore more expensive to employ people to fulfil these role.

So you are ignoring physical limitations completly. I rest my case
It has been well researched with the h&s and the cwu that doing a 4 hour walk with a trolley does not give more fatigue than someone doing a 3-30hr walk using pouch boxes.
So what i'm trying to say is the 4hr walk will come in to save your jobs, already in London loads of offices are going for the 4hr walk which is on the 4 day week 4x10hrs or 4x10hrs and one 8hr for a week off in 6.
Depending on how you go into it most walks are not 4hrs,split one walk into 4 should not give you a 4hr walk in most places.
Obviously there are unlucky places.
And then you've got places that can't take trolleys.
Swings and roundabouts.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

That move would be illegal so it would never happen.

You seem to be talking to people who have a limited understanding of employment reg's. They dont seem to realise that someone on a full time contract can not be forced to part time because of disability and that my friends is the law of the land. In spite of what some people think even are RM arn't above that.

We should be safe up here in flat old Yorkshire then - a hill on my walk is a 20% or the old 1 in 5 .

Its their Job to find out if proposals are workable or not so I guess that's why they are doing it.

Quite a few 3.5hr walks with overload bags turn into+4hrs when done with a trolley. Slightly off topic but just while it comes to mind, what variations are built in to Pegasus to compensate for reduced walk speed on Trolley/bike walks?
When the sdd agreement was being put together the union asked for some sort of dispensation for the over 50s to stop them having to do 3.5hr walks RM said fine you can have that but you will be admitting that the over 50s cannot do a full time job therefore if you want that then they would have to move to 35hr contracts also remember age discrimination works up aswell as down so you cannot discriminate against the young or the old.
As postman rightly points out 4hr deliveries are well on there way this is the problem with the CWU they are reactive not proactive and even after all the recent losses they have taken they still cannot see further than the end of their nose.
Think about it carefully though.
3.5hours over 5 days = 17.5 hours walking!
4 hours over 4 days = 16 hours walking!
As long as the weight issue was addressed seriously in all cases, it could be workable.
A good break of 30 minutes half way through the walk, with somat to eat.
More days off a week. Best part of a week off every three weeks.
Sounds ok to me but then again I haven't actually done it so what do I know?
