Why are you so bitter about it though? They have a right to not be a driver if they so choose. It's within the very employment contract they signed at the time of being employed. :Boo hoo!
I get that but what’s the big deal about driving for Royal Mail when you’re probably getting straight in your car after work and driving home , especially with all the moaning around non driver fatigue, it’s really easily fixed , no ?
The vans are a liability. Can't just walk away and get the bus home if your POS van breaks down. Passenger can and will. :thumbup

The more you drive the greater chance of being involved in an accident add in the stress of driving in a congested area and is it any wonder that a person not employed to drive for RM would be reluctant to do it?

Add in the fact you don't get paid any extra for putting your licence on the line for no extra pay and I actually wonder why anyone would drive for RM who isn't employed to do so

No doubt the doom and gloom brigade will be along soon to tell us non drivers are getting made redundant/sacked/forced to drive, etc🫣
As a non driver this will not be doom or gloom, this would be thank you very much and sail of into the sunset. I'd love it if they made me redundant, nice big pay of and get to leave RM. I'd be very happy. I also joined RM when driving was not in my contract so they cannot force to drive.

As I have already mentioned, a USO planner has confirmed they can't. The more I read this thread, the more it seems apparent it is all about the 'potentially' every Saturday off for non drivers, which hasn't been confirmed by anyone...

8,000 non drivers still.
3400 of that number can drive - they choose not to.
They should be forced to drive or leave the job in my opinion , the job has changed and requires you to drive and they are taking the choice not to , it’s that simple.
By that logic you should be forced to work a Sunday.
As far as I’m aware sunday staffing isn’t an issue, in fact Royal Mail are struggling to find them work , this is a specific skill that some staff have and are refusing to use , it’s quite simple really .
Why should I be forced to do something that is not in my contract? If RM want to void my contract then fine, but for this I will surely need compensation, or make be redundant, either way a company does not just get to force an employee to work outside the terms of their contract. I personally would love it if they made me redundant so I could kiss goodbye to the mess that is RM with a wad of cash in my pocket!

Exactly 🙂 But then you'd probably get some getting jealous because a non-driver got redundancy over a driver😅

Typical deflection. Applications for a job in Parliament or RM CEO are probably on LinkedIn
It’s a simple question, what part are you struggling with ?

So you think that people who have a different contract from you with different original terms should be forced to do what you signed up for? Be careful what you wish for. :wave
I certainly don’t feel the answer to it is giving them a mon / fri duty as previous poster said .
Mon-fri should not be something a non-driver even thinks about.
Monday will be three days mail .
Tuesday will also be three days mail.
Then the week starts getting busy.
By Friday you would be destroyed.
Every week until the end of time.
I wouldn't wish that particular attendance pattern on my worst enemy.
Sounds bad then you realize you just have to work your hours, if you can't complete then bring it back. Let managers worry about mail brought back, it's not your problem it's theirs that's why they get paid more money. Work your hours then go home.

Ok so if we had brand new electric vans , non drivers with a license would be ok to drive for Royal Mail ? I doubt that would make any difference.

If you believe that ensuring that non drivers work Saturdays is to make it "fair to all" you have to ensure that non drivers are not subject to levels of fatigue that drivers are not. Fair to all isn't a one way street.

In my opinion you are a long way from addressing that and continuing to cite the numbers as if it justifies a lesser level of care shouldn't sit well with anyone.
Try pushing an 70+ kg trolley up multiple hills for 5 hours a day 5 days a week exposed to the elements for the full duration of the duty. A 100 % walking duty is a lot tougher than a driving duty, probably the worst duties in the office tbh.

It wouldn't. Non-drivers don't want to drive for royal mail, for whatever reason, and that's their choice.

How did the CWU get itself into a position where it is trying to find solutions to fatigue for workers who have had their daily workload tripled by their employer, for no extra pay or perks?

How’s about telling the employer that their plan is ill thought through, costs too much in terms of employee physical health, and that they can’t save their £350m by treating their employees like donkeys?
and don't forget no extra time to do this triple workload. The CWU are a joke, I woke up to this after Dave Wards first surrender deal, pulled out the union it's a waste of money. All they do is talk tough and then wave the white flag and sell us out, happens every single deal. You're literally paying Dave Ward 100 000 pounds a year to make your job worse.

It's not a matter of what you can't complete.
It's a matter of what you will be expected to do inside your working hours that is causing fatigue in the pilot offices. 5hr+ of double and triple mail every day with no let up, no quiet Monday or Tuesday just relentlessly high call rates every day until retirement, especially for non drivers.

I think a lot of people on this thread have failed to realise that the plan to ensure that there is scope to manage this extra workload is to lengthen each day and have you out on delivery for as much of your working day as possible.

It sounds bad because it is bad.
