Thanks to everyone who responded to my post offering insight and advice. One of the main things is that times have changed , from working men’s clubs shutting down to no longer having a local pub due to cost of energy. Then of course community centres have closed, and local libraries are struggling to stay open, and we all know about local shops closing on the high street. All the aforementioned are means and ways to connect and interact with others.
The one thing that’s so so important as I see it, is to get out of the house everyday, rain or shine. Volunteering is a option, food banks, age concern, charity shops, join a gym and go at least three times a week, photography could be a option, getting a dog to get out and socialise with other dog walkers, take up cycling, take up hill walking, take up chess and join local club, learn to play the guitar, have something to look forward to once a month, take up amateur dramatics, take up dancing, they all involve means of interaction if participating with a local club or volunteering as means of companionship.

Sounds like you have lots of ideas for plans but I think that it also requires a change of mindset as you go from being so busy to a little less active. You'll adapt mentally to it eventually as we all do when things change. My dad is going through this currently and seems to be spending more time in the garden and helps with a local food bank once a week. I think getting a dog is a good one as you'll have to be out twice a day then to walk it and you'll have the constant companionship they bring.
