Who has faith in Walsh and the CWU????

Post by postmanpatscat2 »

Running this Poll to see what people's thoughts are on the CWU and the job they have done. See if it's different to how they preach in their occasional 5pm briefings..

They only care about more saturdays off and better conditions for new starters (who havent payed into union for 20 years+ like some folk.)...

Not many care about having the odd extra saturday off, we knew that when we signed up many moons ago!... Wish the cwu would quit with this thinly veiled smoke screen, acting like this is the be all and end all. Are they mad? lol.

Regarding new starters, yes they should be on same conditions don't disagree with that but they knew what the terms they were signing signed the contract! For me this shouldnt be right at top of priority's list. What about those who have payed in to union for many years, helping new starters who wasn't even here during the last 2 industrial actions doesn't help the older members 1 iota. Infact many of them have left for free or on a poor redundancy package, for me that is defeat for the CWU.

We know why the CWU have new starters high on there agenda in equalising conditions and that is because the CWU need these, these are future paying cwu members and with that the CWU will survive. Witout these new members the CWU is dead and along with that there cushy little jobs/nice pay packets. As a lot of long standing cwu members have jacked in there subscriptions, I wonder why!

How can people have faith?
They have just signed us up for heavier work to increase fatigue.
There is literally no way around the fact.

We don't have any representation in our office since our rep who was a yes man to the management went long term sick we are all on a 1 in 6 . And a lot of us pulled out of the union after the last strikes when they caved in to protect there in house jobs etc...
Only time we see anyone from the union is when the old boy comes round trying to sign up new starters.

I thought the Union supported all from day one of joining ?

No they did not, many were hoodwinked by a job advert that bore no resemblance to the contract they were given and were told "Not to worry about it"

Your comments are very bitter towards new starters as if you think because you have worked at RM 20+ years you have more rights than them.

You say they knew the t and c,s when they signed a contract but the didn’t no the difference in wages and how many hours they expect you to work I guarantee every new starter does more work then older posties often taking loops out the longer serving posties leave in because they won’t work 1 minute over the time .so after they have done a full round they’re expected to go straight back out .you say the cwu need the new starters Royal Mail need the new starters or it would go tits up .same company, same job, same wages simple as that

So much for Royal Mail wanting to be a greener company....putting 40 hour workers with 37 or less hour workers on van shares, then sending the 40 hour postie out again.

If over half voted believe that the union have completely failed in negotiations in the past two decades.
How do they feel their current job would look like now if Royal Mail had free reign at making the changes/plans they would have liked to implement?
I presume exactly the same as it does now?
Or not?

Do I believe the union have done a good job over the last decade? No I don’t.
Would the job and pay have been worse without any input from them and us standing together ?
Definitely.

I will put it all in a nutshell, this is what happened with CWU accepting these ludicrous terms last strike. Also what I think the management think about all this.

1. The Union should have rejected these bull **** terms and called Thompsons bluff! The ship would have been better sinking and starting afresh, whether that be the Government re-nationalising Royal Mail or the company going bust (many posties who have already left for nothing because fed up of job would atleast have got something!) And what would have been nice is that would have been a slap in the face, a resounding no to these Shepton Mallet pigs at the top of the food chain creaming all royal mails profits, whilst we suffer!

In the words of the Union, 'lets together make the company great again!' Er pay us a decent wage what the job is worth sure, I will put my heart and soul in to it. Treat us like a McDonalds woker and go..... ........... Ya get me?

The reason the Union accepted this nonsence rather than do what I have just suggested is very simple, It's to preserve themselves and their lucrativly paid jobs! And to a lesser axtent there minnions (I mean reps.) Like the Gambling comission is to gambling firms, there all in bed together because without the casinos, there would be no gambling comnission? Do ya get me, no royal mail, no union.

Think Ward and the other gob .... on the CWU supposidly championing our cause, they are dinasaurs, back in a prehistoric age of simple rhetoric where you could climb the ladder quickly if you can talk well and know the right people. These fellas high up in the CWU are outdated and would not get a lucrative job if there was no royal mail/cwu, they offer nothing!

2. The managers!

All the way up the ladder of management from delivery DOM to the big wigs to just below shareholders, they have no faith in where the company is going, no faith in the implented changes and structures we will be bringing in and know they are preaching pure crap!

All they care about is preserving there postion and keeping the manager 1 place above them content! Whilst they get a lucrative paypacket and lots of bonuses for achieving nothing apart from smearing this big mess from one place to another.

A DOM is on 47k a year for doing sweet F A.... begging you to look at that ridiculous data on pda so they get their bonuses. I mean ooo you've only completed 95% of deliveries today, what ya want us to do doorstep then? Completely contradictory to what you are told.

Wake up people the Union have failed, Royal mail is dead and all we are are slaves to those at top. My advice is get out or work at an effort that the wage is worth. Dont work a minute over, also don't be one of those in office 'ooooo shes taken nothing out today, she wants sacking her!!! WA Wa.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Assuming when you get out you then work for another employer rather than work self employed, you'll probably find things just as bad and may well not have any union support whatsoever.

This is the problem with half the people in this job, the truth is you probably won't "find things just as bad" unless you get a job at Amazon or Evri.
Every. Single. Postie. I know who has moved onto pastures new is loving it and say they wish they'd done it years ago. Make of that what you will.
