No it's a ridiculous suggestion that someone must have dreamt up, can't imagine them wanting to pay two people to do anything less than two people's amount of work which wouldn't happen.

These people (RM management of all levels & CWU officials) have absolutely no idea what the job entails & how much we actually do nowadays. Were these guys born turds or do they just become one as they go higher up the ladder.

On the shift grids, how many hours are we basing a FT and PT week? On grid B, for PT on the 5 day week its 38 hours and 30 minutes, on the one with the 4 day week 31 hours and 30 minutes , 184 hours and 50 minute total, an average of 36 hours a week? Can anyone confirm these figures?

Keep in mind that all this nonsense is a convoluted means of getting round legislation. It would be so much simpler to go Monday to Friday but then they wouldn't be able to keep up the pretence of a six day service.
The machine stops.

It's mentioned on here that "firms" duties will still get daily deliveries but I'm guessing there's not that many dedicated firms duties these days except for maybe massive trading estates, all our firms and schools get delivered by whatever duty drives past them as they hardly get any mail these days and haven't warranted a dedicated delivery for years.
When I first started these same businesses were getting multiple sack fulls daily quite a few had there own selection on the ips and the drop bag fittings but now it's a handful of items daily.

On our iLSM there's a few business replies selections and direct trays for firms. With what little they now get, them ones might as well be moved onto the CSS to whatever batch covers the walk they're on. I have some firms walks on one of the batches on my CSS machine and each firms walk gets way less mail these daysted_e_bear wrote: ↑05 Mar 2025, 06:31It's mentioned on here that "firms" duties will still get daily deliveries but I'm guessing there's not that many dedicated firms duties these days except for maybe massive trading estates, all our firms and schools get delivered by whatever duty drives past them as they hardly get any mail these days and haven't warranted a dedicated delivery for years.

A solicitors’ firm I worked for until 2016 employed eight staff in the postroom, and we used to pay extra to have dedicated delivery and collection of our inbound and outbound RM mail - bags and bags of the stuff. We also used to have a separate vehicle ferrying our DX mail. The postroom was literally the beating heart of the firm — everything came in and out of that room.
That firm now employs just one postroom clerk. No more early delivery or late collection. Like a lot of law firms, they’re not even a member of the DX mail network anymore. Almost everything is now done digitally. The postroom clerk has a dual role — postroom clerk and e-filing clerk (even filing is done electronically these days!). RM has to change too.

When P&L came in I recall a cover manager saying to me privately that every change he had seen come in had made things worse. That said, at least until relatively recently you could still wager your life on the office being clear each day.
