Lots of my colleagues now work part time so that they have a fixed income so many days a week but work the other days/hours on jobs that pay better money. Unskilled work is never certain and unskilled labour is, lets face it, expendable. Three have done so well, they have now left to make a go of it and two of those are now self employed, work longer hours than they did delivering post but earn ten times as much. Its remarkable how hard you'll work when its your own money and no handed out in a wage packet.
I still stand by what I said. I would not waste every waking hour doing battle with my boss. The energy used is far better spent doing something productive for the wife and children, be it a better way of life or more money. To fight a regime that is getting smaller by the month seems a complete waste of time.

Wrong. What I said was immoral was the aim of wanting to be rich - to expand I don't agree with people whose sole aim is to be rich and gain that at the expense of everyone else.cantypeANDSHOUTS wrote:

To try and keep your T&C and wages approximately the same year on year there is nothing wrong in that IMHO and I would be more than happy for the pay to stay the same taking into account inflation. If we do that for this year either with the headline rate of RPI then we have had a pay cut for the period 2007-2009.
So to restate - you got it wrong on the immorality argument and you have got it wrong on the crying more, more argument. Please read my posts before you put words in my mouth.

I doubt there are that many, except perhaps the idiot in Zimbabwe, whose sole aim is to be rich and gain that at the 'expense of everyone else'. Lot depends on your politics, but as things stand and as for riches generally, the first part may be true and without business there wouldn't be much work to speak of. Whether it is at the 'expence of everyone else' is subjective. The vast majority (at least outside the fat cat range) work hard. I had a friend in a VERY well paid job in London who always drove around in £50k plus cars, but one year he quit the job and is now just a plumber. His view was that the stress involved just wasn't worth all the money, but its a misconception that those with lots of money don't work hard. Theres a lot to be said for a job with few responsibilities. As I say, sometimes a simpler existence is better than one that is awash with money.
As for ridiculously high salaries on what are often pat time jobs, Labour should have roped that one in when they came to power. Its a runaway train now.

No not immoral at all she got rich doing what she is good at and she did "give it back" in a way.
Bill gates is also some one who I don't think is immoral as he designed Windows and made if what it is. He again became rich doing something he is good at.
So who do I think is immoral - George Bush - he invaded IRAQ on a pretext of WMD when in my honest opinion he was just after a way to control 1/4 of the worlds oil reserve. The only people who are making a profit in IRAQ are American multinationals and those IRAQis who are part of the system.
Politicians such as Brown and Blair who decided that public service workers could only have pay rises of below 2.5% yet allow Senior Managers and Directors of the same self organisations set their own salaries and bonuses and all seem to be over the imposed 2.5%.
Also I find it immoral that politicians don't want us to know how they are using their expense accounts and that they keep voting for above inflation raises in their salaries and expenses. Also that they are using all sorts of laws to keep themselves free from the burden of the Freedom of information act so that we can't get the information we want. I understand that sometimes some information has to be kept secret, such as Military and Business information, however, they use it to hide information that should be accessible, so that we can see if they are doing their main job that is "To be Servants of the People".
I also find the morality of Allan Leighton to be at the very least questionable. All he seems to do is join boards of companies and in the pursuit of "efficiency" lays of workers, makes T&C worse and at the end walks away with millions. Not illegal I grant you and if efficiency was his sole aim I would have no argument with him. But Walmart and Asda made him millions - no doubt when RM is broken up it will be the same story.

Can't say I have any beef with Leighton - plenty like him on boards of big companies but I do have a beef with where liberalisation is going. Look at Severn Trent Water - fined a massive amount for lying to offwat but do the customers get THEIR money back and WHERE does the fine money go??? Now THATS immoral

Come on Night Tonic don't use the old plumber argument, many off my mates are plumbers(in London) there pay has plummeted in recent year's, they have no union and are just undercut by migrant worker's, the only way those that work in the building game can make good money is two start up there own business and pay migrant workers the bear minimum, that is the future for all of us unless people wake upNight Tonic wrote:I doubt there are that many, except perhaps the idiot in Zimbabwe, whose sole aim is to be rich and gain that at the 'expense of everyone else'. lets have a heated debate...
Iv gotta join in this one !
The government want to cash in on Royal Mail, hear me out ! lol
They'r trying to slim us right down, profit first, service second, and its then the mostly part time workers left, third.
RM is then a healthy looking buisness, privatisation follows(could be partial, could be full) but as a result lots of lovely moola for the government.
P.S.
Please dont give me the one about "the competition"
The government will take RMs gloves off when the time is right.
What really worries me is the fact that they might just achieve it !

This is a nation of some 62 million people, and rising. Now, given that common sense dictates that to be a businessman, even a moderatelyNight Tonic wrote:These remarks don't really stand Up. Employed yes but self-employed no - or is that prospect too scary?
successful one, a person needs to posess some sort of business acumen, is it really reasonable to believe that we all can down tools and become
carbon copies of Rupert Murdoch? ( Dirty shudders at the thought )..........Nein, niet, non, no.
There will always be people like me, millions of us in fact, who possess the business acumen of a gnat, and will need to be employed by those who
do possess some business acumen. Thus, has it always been, and despite Tory fantasies of the contrary, thus, it will always be.
I shall now look into my crystal ball and see what the future holds,.......Hmmmmm, I see at least three more governments who continue to ignore
the fact that job creation trails in the wake of the population explosion we are currently experiencing.......Said population explosion predicted to continue
unabated until at least the 2050's, job creation in a nation that has long since turned it's back on manufacturing, is small scale, very low key, insufficient,
supply fails to meet demand..........Then, this country takes it's first steps towards it's destiny.

I knew two guys who twigged that charity shops throw out lots of clothes that they can't sell. They approached a large chain of charity stores, offering to pay 50p for every full bag and did a deal with a company that made blankets from recycled cloth. They went to the bank and borrowed enough money to buy a lorry - they got so busy, they bought another lorry and so on. The rest is history and they did that in under seven years. You don't need a business head - just ideas and the guts to go for it. Yes you're quite right, it doesn't suit everyone but the point is, it IS possible!
Few if any are born with business acumen you know - you figure it out.

yeah they are called Ragmen , Charity shops do have a problem getting rid of stuff they can't possibly sell which eats into their costs .You get flyers pushed through your door asking for ANY clothing etc , it's big business sending recycled stuff abroad

that's what Del Boy used to say , the character was John Sullivan's satire on a working class Tory, as he went more Thatcherite , John scripted him as a bigger Prat . We've also got Alf Garnett coming on here who has a problem with a spellchecker , and Del and Rodders as Chairman and CEO of RM .BELIAL wrote:Yeh an we all might win the lottery ,and if only you all put some effort in everyone could be a millionaire.
