Amazon is to create more than 1,000 new apprenticeships across the UK this year as it seeks to further expand its reach.

The ecommerce giant is offering a wide range of opportunities across the country throughout its businesses, including Amazon Web Services (AWS), Prime Video, and Amazon Devices and Services.

Recruitment has begun across more than 40 different programmes, such as data science and cyber security, HR, marketing, engineering, health and safety, and warehouse operations.

The delivery company explained the majority of its courses also now included generative AI training. During its fourth quarter results, Amazon said it would pump about £80.66bn into its artificial intelligence initiatives this year.

Amazon is set to launch a series of new programmes this year, including creative industries production, data centre operations, and facilities operations.

More than half of the roles will be open to external candidates, according to the group.

Amazon UK country manager John Boumphrey said: “Apprenticeships have been a big focus for Amazon for over a decade, and we’re excited to continue creating opportunities for people to start and grow their careers through the announcement of 1,000 new UK apprenticeships in 2025.

“The Amazon apprenticeship programme is perfect for people of all ages who are either taking their first step on the career ladder, or for those who want to pursue a new path.

“This is one of the many ways we continue to create opportunities for people inside and outside Amazon to learn new skills and gain new qualifications.”

Amazon kicked off its apprenticeship programme in 2013, and has offered 7,000 apprenticeships across the UK so far.

The retailer has rolled out a host of new programmes since then, having announced 1,500 new apprenticeships in 2022 and 1,000 new schemes in 2021.

In June, the business also pledged to invest £23m in upskilling its UK staff.

Absolute garbage. You'd be better off an autodidact.

Of course they want to do this, they get work for less than half the cost and all they need to do is send them to school once a week.
