That's what I thought, but apparently the excess staff won't be forced to move elsewhere so what are they going to be given to do as obviously if they do anything that involves the mail it will paint a false picture of the success of the trials.clashcityrocker wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025, 16:45I thought the idea was to use 4 posties to cover what is currently covered by 6. (And even less on Saturday)
A 30 to 35% reduction in staffing levels?
Consequently these offices (even if they are currently understaffed) will be overstaffed during the trials.
Failures I assume will be minor if they are allowed to happen at all.

Re: LTB 398/24 – USO Pilots
You still need the same lorries for moving packets and Tracked around. If you leave it every other day you risk days when the lorry doesn't have the capacitypostslippete wrote: ↑08 Jan 2025, 16:26Well, one of the main reasons why RM said that our start and finish times were being pushed back was due to the removal of flights and transporting everything via road. But does it make sense to use all these lorries everyday if the bulk of the mail isn't actually going out? Surely if they really wanted to reduce CO2 emissions and also save on costs both on transport and processing then they would send a lorry every other day and we could then be starting earlier.
The only issue is that 1st class letters would also be delivered every other day as well, and I agree, it doesn't really make any sense to drive round delivering a handful of 1st class letters.

Re: LTB 398/24 – USO Pilots
Alternating frames was a best case scenario for us in December, with an equal number of days having neither go out because of the volume of Tracked. There were only two days we shifted both sides and only because all packets with a footprint larger than A4 paper were offloaded to agency. Some colleagues lost count of how many days were rammed in the slots, looking at you with defeated eyes when you enquired.ted_e_bear wrote: ↑09 Jan 2025, 20:32Good point, they plan delivering mail on alternate days, didn't always manage that more than a few times last Christmas, can't see that happening with less staff.
The machine stops.

Hasn't started yet (AFA the LTB info states):
The pilot will take place from February 2025 in 37 units across the UK.

There's a post here from another thread, sort of sums it up really

Re: Non Drivers Sun Jan 19, 2025 10:32 am At the end of the day, we don't know what is going to happen with drivers/non drivers .. we are one of the pilot offices and had a meeting this week with local/area manager/s - they don't know when the trial is to start - they doubt it will be February - they don't know the attendance hours, they don't know the shift patterns, they're not sure how it will work, they don't know anything regarding vr, in short, it's wait and see

Trust me everything doesn’t work down south. Yeah it's a shame how far RM has fallen from the great and decent institution it once was, fully respecting the workforce and customers alike. We used to be an appreciated pillar of communities all over the country, reduced now to a profit driven commodity for the few rich shareholders and top managers/union reps. It's a damning indictment on the UK as a whole tbh. Rampant capitalism in full swing.

So do the Saturday postie has to take parcels over two duties plus 1C or two posties share a van and take parcels over 4 duties and 1C?
Either way tracked will ALWAYS come first in the manager's eyes. For example if you have 4 hours on a Saturday to deliver 200 parcels off both duties (tracked and non tracked) plus 50 first class letters, 5 specials, 2 collection boxes and a customer collection that is about 60 items an hour. The average time to go out on delivery is 9am at my office on a Saturday so I'm guessing with no prep then Saturday drivers will be out closer to 8am otherwise it will be impossible to complete.

They always assume it take’s less time than it actually does. Underestimation of time to deliver and also the volume of 2c mail, is built into the new Pilot method.postiewhite wrote: ↑10 Feb 2025, 00:54So do the Saturday postie has to take parcels over two duties plus 1C or two posties share a van and take parcels over 4 duties and 1C?

Why would 2C come into it on a Saturday? There won't be any 2C delivered on a Saturday.Barnacle wrote: ↑10 Feb 2025, 05:16They always assume it take’s less time than it actually does.
