To do what exactly? We work 1 in 5 and always finish 2 hours early as there is f**k all to do.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑01 Feb 2025, 04:58In the eyes of thr CWU, real posties don’t work Sundays, only new entrants do, and so the union is pushing Sundays into the long grass and not mentioning Sundays at all in any official or unofficial comms. Anyway, this is another feel good news story from your CWU — more Saturdays off — so please don’t ruin it!
But back to reality. Sunday working is here to stay — and will be ramped up quite a bit. Starting in a fortnight’s time, each and every new-entrant employee at my DO — a large proportion of which have escaped ever working Sundays, even though some have been there 18 months or longer — will be rostered to work four in six Sundays. We will have 20 staff in every Sunday (10 at present).
Bad news for some of the other new entrants, some of whom are deeply unhappy at the prospect of working Sundays (even though they signed up on those terms) but more positive for those of us who have been on permanent Sundays all this time. Speaking for myself, I was more than happy doing every Sunday, as that is what I signed up for, but most of tbe other existing Sunday people are very happy with the change.

But if the duties are already over the top and the modelling shows even more delivery time is required then how are we ever going to achieve a manageable workload. Most offices are desperately in need of proper revisions and this really ought to become a condition of the new system going live as it was with van sharing9. No walks will be changed, neither increased.

What has happened to us reaching a 35 hour working week as i would of thought with the major changes coming and the massive savings this produces that would be enough to trigger the next reduction

Thanks for your answers MartinMartin Walsh wrote: ↑01 Feb 2025, 09:32I am happy to answer your questions , let’s try to have a reasonable and respectful discussion.
9. No walks will be changed, neither increased.
.
12. The delivery of all mail Monday to Friday will mean 50% of your current duties will be delivered each day on a rotating basis.
13. So each address will get either 3 deliveries one week and two deliveries the following so 5 deliveries every two weeks of all the mail you currently deliver.
14. So in theory you will have two days of non priority items on each day Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. However on Monday and Tuesday you will have 4 days meaning Monday and Tuesday become heavier days.
15. Your call rate on the days you deliver all the mail will rise from the average 58% to 78%. So you will go to more houses on your route.
17. The modelling which is being tested is showing that on Monday and Tuesday the increase in call rate is showing that you need an additional 40 minutes. On Tuesday to Friday you will need an extra 22 minutes.
18. However you will not be able to do double prep within your unit and have the increase in call rate so this is where part timers will get the opportunity for a up lift in their contracted hours up to full time.
On these points; as it stands just now, many people cannot deliver their duties with the tracked/collections/specials as the workload is simply too much since the revisions. How will this workload be achievable if the call rate is significantly increasing whilst still having to deliver the tracked/bulk?
If there are 62 minutes extra needed every Monday and Tuesday - how are these 62 minutes being put in if our contracted weekly hours remain the same? Longs and shorts?
Will these be ''temporary uplifts'' like before for part timers? Because now the cat is out the bag about these 'temporary variation' contracts I think many part timers will not be happy unless they are offered permanaent contracts. If the business need PTers to got FT for the method change to work then they should be offering permanent contracts.
If you tolerate this, then your paid break will be next

Re: Universal Service Comms
We've been promised time and time again that every agreement would make things better for us. Each and every one has improved nothing. Remember the days when a LWT was 'mandatory'? It's always the same - more work and less of us. The CWU is selling it's members yet another fantasy.
There has never ever been a proper reset in letter carrying and that's what's need. Full and proper revisions based on the rules and regulations of doing the job. The ODM will be based on the data gathered from the job being done incorrectly and as a result it'll be yet another agreement that sees less of us doing more.
What chance have workers got when the local level reps don't do the job to the rules and regulations and the reps above them haven't done the job in decades. If Martin Walsh was on the bag he'd be opposing the ODM.

Re: Universal Service Comms
I will start by thanking Martin for trying to put across what is happening.
I along with the majority of us posties are very interested in the outcome of any trials and hope that it isn't just a box ticking exercise to get the USO change they so desire.
As has already been stated, with no change in duty size i cannot see how we can possibly deliver it as we can't now.
Any increase in daily hours doesn't interest me, as far as i can see it just means you book more o/t on the shorter days, some of us are of a age that we don't want to work longer days and most certainly don't want o/t under any circumstances.
I also realise some people rely on it implicitly to survive, so not sure how you reach the happy medium.

Yes both small Islands with a tight knit population . Comparing countries postal service deliveries to justify cuts is pointlessMartin Walsh wrote: ↑31 Jan 2025, 20:24Where do you want to start Belgium , Germany , Australia, Sweden , Denmark to name just a few but only Malta and the UK now have a 6 day USO.

Walks staying the same size is ridiculous. A guaranteed failure on letter days.

It's either send the 2C on to the DOs or we turn the lorries away with the inward. We've not got the capacity to store 2 days worth of 2C and accept the inward from other MCs. The alternative is that the outward 2C gets processed and sent off to the RDCs, before we touch the inward, which would have to be sent out later

Hopefully your MC gets shut down soon then as it doesn't sound fit for purpose.SpacePhoenix wrote: ↑01 Feb 2025, 19:42It's either send the 2C on to the DOs or we turn the lorries away with the inward. 78% seems low to me for up to 3 days mail regardless that's a near 50% increase in work load every single day of the week for the same pay! If we are all doing 50% more work, as I assume "Evi" will be doing similar, then surely that means RM will need 50% less staff to deliver it in future?
