Travelling Post Offices

Post by postiebob »

:wave I visited Nene Valley at Peterborough yesterday to see how it used to be done, they have got a rake of four tpo coaches and one has been converted to collect and drop off mail using nets, this was last done in 1971 at Penrith, if you get the chance to visit on the 23/24 June get there a great day out. I include a video take by the lads and its off you tube.

im hopeing to go to the mail by rail event in June (i think its june) ...
a way to experience the good old days... the good old days i never experienced
and the NVR is a pretty good place to experience the TPOs especially since they have 2 points where they can drop/pick up the mail... plus they have 5 of the TPO carraiges that Royal Mail/EWS took out of service in 2004

Strange how everything comes back - used to have TPOs on trains - now AL and AC closing down all these rural POs and they are brining in Bus Based PO's as well.

Don't see it being as good as a brick PO though.

Bus based PO's? Is that the same as an Out Reach PO?? If it is then I can see lots of them being robbed whenever the criminal fraternity work it out :d'oh!
