Handed a month's notice in. Any potential positives to try and stay?
I've been in this job about 8 years and I've managed to get a job in a local established place Monday to Friday with roughly the same pay. I've liked working as a postie up until a couple of years ago where I feel we are getting monitored more with the PDA and the van trimbles plus I'm sick of working most Saturdays.
I've had my arm twisted to finally leave for a secure job near me working Monday to Friday but I'm still not 100% sure whether to jump now or regret it (I'm 56 now) and it's a decent opportunity.
Things are changing at RM and I've sort of heard talk of "possibly" have more Saturdays off in the future. Do I U-turn and stick around for a while or jump whilst I can?

known a few come back, but personally if i got offered something that appears to be decent i wouldn't hesitate to jump,
this job certainly isn't a decent job for life that it once was, far from it

We've also had a few leave and then return but they all eventually left again for good.

A lot of staff left our office. Ones with longer service than yourself & have got jobs which are less physical & stressful & have no regrets about leaving in fact they wish they had done it earlier.

I joined in 2012 and left in 2022 in my late 50s, during my time things only got worse - and talking to ex-colleagues, it has only got worse since. I wouldn't expect it to go in any other direction from here on.
Make sure you copy/print/screenshot everything on the App as your access will end on your last day. If you've been in for 8 years (joined before 2018) you only needed to give one week's notice, so you've been good to RM - don't expect them to be the same back!

Gotta agree with Fb, the job is not even close to what it was.
It’s only going to get worse.
Watched as employees come in from a wks holiday to find a wks worth of mail at there frame, they walked out.
Soul destroying I would suggest.
Good Luck, go for it, enjoy your wkends.

Yep I agree with the rest, take up your new offer, maybe after a few months you may regret it, but, if you stay now and it does indeed get worse you will always be thinking of not getting out when you had the chance.. and just think of no more out in the frezzing cold or when it pouring down and your soaked through. you'll be doing your body a favour as well!

Roughly the same pay but will your new employer make the same pension contributions?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Couldn't you take a career break and just try the new job. Used to be allowed a year. Whether it is still an option I don't know. Several in our place have done it but not sure if friendly managers have facilitated it

Obviously if Postman decides the board needs a financial correspondent you will be a shoo in for the post.
The fact remains that the employer contributions are significantly higher than a lot of other places.
