Ligament sprain

Post by Rosered »

Hello all, yesterday whislt out delivering I fell down some steps and had to have an ambluence called because I could not get up. I phoned my line manager and he came and took my mail off me and saw me laying on the pavement unable to move! He called the ambulence.
My question is do I need to get a doctors certificate or is the self certificate enough for a week. By then I hope to be back at work (probably only for indoor work though til it's properly healed)

I have only been working for RM for 4 months and am on my 6 probation period. I have had one day off sick already (seperate from this) As this will be my second instance of illness do you think I will get an official warning from the bosses and do you think this will affect my chances of getting my contract renewed after my 6 month contract finishes... Thanks from a miserable postlady! xx

You probably will be ok, but don't take another sick leave until your job is permanent. It depends on your delivery office management.

Make sure you make an accident report as soon as you can, and cite your manager as a witness,
and if there are any other witnesses get witness statements from them. Accidents on Duty should
not count on your sick record.
You can self certificate for up to seven days )must be done within 24 hours of returning to work),
but if you are unlikely to be unable to resume after seven days you must get a doctor's certificate.
But don't resume unless you are fit to work.
If you are a CWU member speak to your Rep about the accident asap - even if it is an AOD you
will trigger a Stage 1 hearing if you have more than 13 days or more than 3 absences in a 12 month
period (I think it's less if you are a triallist).
If you are not a CWU member you should join.

You can still self certificate for up to seven days - most GPs won't issue a certificate for the first seven days.

Didn't your manager tell you about the Accident Book?

You need to make sure that the accident is entered in the Accident Book (on computer these days) ASAP, I think the deadline is 3 days, but I'm not sure. Not only to cover yourself, but also so that they will know that there is an issue with that particular area. If nothing else, they can warn anyone doing your route that it is a potentially hazardous area.

Get well soon.

If i was you i would get this down in the accident book asap.I once knew of a postie who did the very same and his dom refused entry into the accident records , i was kind of sceptical about his actions , if you ask me he did this to prevent them from being sued for health and safety reasons..call me Mr synical
