……………by the selfless sacrifice made by some of my colleagues in their quest to improve my financial security.
Mainly because all their efforts have made so much difference and their only reward will be further demands on their efforts and a complete indifference to their screams of unfair treatment.
I am referring by the way, to the shocking statement by our manager this week that at the end of the calculating period for bonus payments, our office has the prospect of getting almost £100 for each full timer and pro rata for part timers. This sort of announcement at our office is as rare as rocking horse s**t on the moon but the reason for its happening is not.
This bonus has been built on the backs of martyrs who have selflessly struggled each week to manfully get up an hour earlier than their colleagues to carry overweight bags to their own cars without stopping for a break before leaving for their deliveries – and it’s paid off. They have earned me a bonus that I hardly deserve when you put my contribution alongside theirs. All I have done is what I am supposed to do (and I must add in mitigation that I do it very well) and when I have found that I have been required to work a little longer than my contracted hours, I have, perhaps greedily, expected and received additional payments for extended delivery. These payments over the last twelve months have probably amounted to a thousand pounds more than the incredible bonus payment that my self sacrificing colleagues have earned for me and others like me but that should not diminish their efforts.
Instead I would like to think that they to will be rewarded when Royal Mail looks at their performance and says – “you are brilliant – you finish so far ahead of your contract time each day that we are going to give you 50 delivery points off Rhino’s walk to stop that greedy bastard earning so much."
Thanks boys and girls – according to Wilbur your efforts are covering the loss of up to three walks but I shouldn’t really complain ‘cos you are paying for my holiday by giving yours back to the company.

Very droll rhino49, and very true. Why not ask them to come in even earlier and carry even more. Just think how much extra you could make next time?rhino49 wrote:……………by the selfless sacrifice made by some of my colleagues in their quest to improve my financial security.

Great post Rhino, but I'm afraid the kind of individual who is stupid enough to work for free will lack the necessary brain cells to appreciate the irony - no, absurdity - of their behaviour, even if they read your message.
We have a different species of 'early finisher' in my office. You know, the ones who finish work about 10mins into their shift, and fill the rest of their paid hourage nipping to the loo, having cigarettes, prattling on their mobiles, chatting to managers etc etc and who turn the avoidance of physical labour to an art form.
Mind you, I guess that makes me stupid for not adopting the 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' mentality
