Eff me! Parcels through the roof on Saturday though, whole office had USO failures, one colleague, on admittedly the crappest duty, did no letters whatsoever as he had over 120 tracked, another took out two rows and only did a quarter as he was swamped too, no one took cleared at all as no one wants o.t on a Saturday, me included! I had 63 tracked and took a whisker over two rows of my duty and only had 20 mins to spare when I got back to DO. Absolute shi*show, dreading tomorrow, will do an hours o.t but that's it! Off Tuesday and don't want to screw up my rest day cover but at the end of the day I am not starting at 7:15 and getting back to the office at quarter to 6 like my colleague last Wednesday (on the crappest duty in office).

Would you consider 63 tracked more than normal?

Yes for a Saturday indeed, I know it's Christmas pressure but still, on a normal (non Christmas pressure day), I would expect maybe a bit over 50, anyway, I have a singleton trolley duty and litteraly a whisker over 2 rows was a full torlley, and I left about 5 or 6 ordinary packets and it was a full HCT, if I was to have more than one trolley then I would lose at least 30 mins going back, loading up with more, then resuming delivery.

Could well be a gap between lorry arrivals or someone who's on break, that time sounds about right for a breaktime for some staff

We're slowly being replaced with casuals, it's a matter of when not if they do the same in DOs. Likewise with owner-drivers coming into DOs it's also a matter of when not if that happens

Smooth i started this thread about the avalanche of parcels that occurred this week, and really to check it wasn't just my part of the country but all over.
Which it proved to be.
How we perceive we are being paid in terms of our worth is subjective, most of us think we are worth more, you think we get more than enough and stay rigidly fixated on the legacy workers.
Seeing as how it would be in your interests to have your t&c's levelled with legacy workers perhaps try to get onside with them instead of battling against them.
It is not in our interests to have a 2 tier work force, no matter what you think, and i would be the first one voting yes to any deal that included it.
Working in RM is hard enough without a chip on your shoulder.

Yeah sat was crap, we took out no mail on our shared duties, we had all the tracked and our oversize, manager said leave the mail and just get the tracked done.. It's ridiculous as some loops have 3 days mail to go out at some point..

However most of the country new contract are on £12.54 so

£12.54 x 40 = £501.60
£12.70 x 20 = £254

£755.60 pre deductions

I'll work out how that compares to legacy contracts when I've looked up the ot rates unless someone can beat me to it.

But there is no adding on for breaks necessary, least of all a whole hour-long break. My break is “spent” or “not spent” entirely at my discretion. It is my right to take a break — the company doesn’t have a right to insist on it being taken (unless it is a paid break). Door to door, from leaving home to getting back home, my day is a smidgeon under 11 hours.

Like i have said, I am doing extra Ot at Christmas. i don’t do such long days all year round. I am not suggesting for a second that 60-hr weeks are good for anyone. However, I make the “grand a week” point to counter all the naysayers likening it to a minimum-wage job and to provide a balanced view for any prospective new staff reading this thread. (i could also mention my 24-year-old colleague who is earning much more than me, maxing it out at 70 hours each week over Christmas, so earning £1,150pw over the busy period!)

Not a problem at all, I'm on the exact same contract as you apart from 30 hours not 40 and Monday to Saturday.
I'm more than happy with what I get as it's about £3.50ph more than other driving jobs out there at the moment and understand the point you are making.

I would check about breaks as my DO has told us we MUST take a 20 min break now as it's automatically going to be taken off your booked hours.
Used to start at 9.00 and clock off on SISO at 15.00 now I have to clock off at 15.20, just a FYI for you.

How can it be £3.50ph more than other driving jobs. £12.54ph less £3.50 would take the hourly rate down to £9.04 an hour. That would be illegal.
