New starters,bout 5mins training then they're on their own,you know the score.
Now seeing as RM are sooooooo short of drivers everyone that now comes in must have a drivers licence.
This newbie (in the passenger seat)gets trained on a drive,then the next day he comes in to do it,it's a firms drive and the reg is done by someone else so he can get used to it.
Unbeknown to the office rep and anyone else the guy is worried about driving the van,seems he's not too confident with it as he's never driven one before.
As always with new starters nowadays they are so s**t scared of being pushed out they take a lot of crap and are very green in knowing what to do.
Seems he saw the lino about it and the lino suggested....................................................he uses his car to do the duty!!!!
And it wasn't till the phg was locking up at the end of the day and the newbie came back to the office in his car that anyone knew anything about it!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been. My BFF Clash The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
Firms are the important duties so why put a newbie on it at all anyway aren't we all supposed to get a driving assessment whenever we start before we get put onto driving duties (at least it used to be like that)

Never been asked to show my driving license, never had a driving assessment, never been told what to check regularly in the van, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that's been given a driving duty and been left to get on with it.

Where I am they have not taken on anyone without a driving licence for over five years and got very in my face when I questioned the legitimacy of this selection process.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe.
At my DO, when applying online it says driving liscences only, so i had to apply for a further away DO. After the interview they asked my prefered DO and i said the one mentioned before.
Turned up for my first day and they were slightly confused as to how i'd got through without a driving liscence.

Ahh the age old situation of left hand and right hand in Royal Mail having no idea what's going on. IMO this will only get worse with the current climate of local agreements. I also wonder if RM will riase the old chestnut of local pay deals for all areas not just inner and outer London

Interesting point! the transport manager in our office cant drive and has never held a driving license and no i'm not making that up.

Ive heard it all now mate That line manager should be sacked,what sort of s**t is that,its bad enough a walk being done with a car but a Firms delivery he should have done a change over where he goes out in a van with an approved instructor for a set time to make sure hes ok,then after at least 2-3 days training with a postie to show him the route and what to do etc.

I cant believe how things are done differently up and down the country!

My licence gets checked twice a year, even though I'm in Callers I want to keep my option of being a driver open, the bookroom still think I'm a driver even though I've been in the room of doom for 3 years.......for a communications firm RM is cr@p at communicating from one end of building to the other

I started about 6 months ago and never had a test to drive the small vans. I turned up on my first day and the first thing the manager asked me was "can you drive", so I said yes and 10 minutes later I was being sent out the door on my own with a van full of mail to deliver. They never even asked to see my licence, although I did have to show it and do a driving assessment before I could drive the transits.
We had to do a driving assessment in a LDV Convoy but I haven't seen them done since I started I suppose anything that costs money is now being dumped nowadays.
