OVERTIME/less money more u do?

Post by johnnyp »

Last week i worked both my r/days not on s/a but green docket.I done the same walk 2 days on the trot but got a tenner less for the 2nd day all because of the s**t agreement that pays u less once u work over 10 hours. This needs to be sorted out A.S.A.P as it is not good for the membership, this must be the only business that does this ,it should be the more u do the higher the rate a bit like when we used to get double time etc.I think this came about from the way forward agreement :mad the worst deal in the unions history.
How do people feel about this?

Yes, it was a massive stitch up and to do with the 48hr rule HERE
Some how because of the rule,it was agreed that the overtime should drop after a certain amount of hours
We are if i'm not mistaken NOT ALLOWED to work longer than 48hrs, which is why we sign the opt out at Xmas.
Which curiously we did not do in our office this year :no no I've just remembered that!
Why and how it was agreed is beyond me.
Also you're supposed to have a break of a certain amount of time between shifts, but that's gone out of the window as well.
So for all those doing mass docket,RM is breaking the law.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

sorry not docketman just another grabber, the reduced pay according to the union was to try and discourage people from working 2 many hrs we just book extra hrs to make up for it
the 48hrs(any max working hrs)are avareged out over so many months i used to get letters about my driving hours but ive never been stopped from docket whilst walking

Yeah, this is a bit of a double edged sword, because the union, i presume, has to go with the majority,
who voted for a higher basic and less hours?
so to allow for this a sliding scale of overtime payment was put in place, and in actual fact anything worked over 10 hours(50 in total)is paid at a lower amount than the hourly rate!! :Confused

Hope it didn't sound by my reply that i was dissing the docket boys :Very Happy
When this 1st came in it was a farce,i was on lates and most of it was practically run on docket, some of the early lads were pulled up,they were doing like 5 double shifts per week.
But nothing could be done as the place would of come to a standstill.
While it's a good idea as it stops employers taking the piss,it's no good for a business like ours.
Although it calmed a bit now, when i 1st started RM was run on docket.

The worst thing about the Way Forward were:

No time and a half for over 8 hours,(Overtime)

No Saturday premium,(even SOM,s agree with this

I can't understand how the Way Forward agreement got voted in either. You try finding anyone in my office who will admit to voting for it, yet some clearly must have. (A bit like a Cliff Richard song getting to No1 despite nobody knowing anyone who's bought it  )
I do understand the union seeking to get substantial increases in basic pay and having to sacrifice overtime rates to do it, but in reality it seems what we've ended up with is crap o/t rates and basic pay that's barely kept up with the cost of living !!! From what johnnypick says, once we've gone beyond 10 hours, we should start referring to any extra hours worked as UNDERTIME :d'oh!
If our o/t rates were still fixed at 1.5x our basic rate, we'd all being doing less hours to get the take-home pay we need :Very Happy

i remember the way, the way forward agreement was put to RM employees, a document as thick as allan leightons wallet but it was all summed up on page one a lump sum payment, not many looked further than that...

Yeah, there's a couple of numptys in our office who would vote for anything that involves a lump sum. Tell them for example that RM want to remove their ex-PHG supplement (worth £20/week) for a lump sum of say £700, and they'd snap your hand off trying to grab the money. Even if you tell them that if they remain with Royal Mail until retirement in 30 years time, the allowance they are voting to throw away would put £31,200 in their bank account if it stayed in place :d'oh!

( I should stress that this is a fictional example. I don't know of any plans to take the ex-PHG money off us :no no )

Developing world...

Post by majeed »

I just checked my wage slip for last month: it's true - the rate of pay goes down over ten hours by about 20%. Where else in the WORLD do you get paid LESS for doing MORE? The developing world, perhaps? No wonder nobody wants to do overtime!

It is not illegal to work over 48 hours a week, it is illegal for your employer to require you to work over 48 hours a week. Hence you can opt out and choose to work over 48 hrs if you like :) This is covered by the EU Working Time Directive.
