Waiting List…

Post by Woody84 »

So after what I thought was a very good interview for a post person with driving job last Thursday, I have today received the email saying-

“Although you passed the interview, their were higher scoring candidates and at this time we cant offer you the role, but you have been placed on a 3 month waiting list”

The interview lasted no more than 30 minutes and this included a tour of the facility and a quick chat about sport… I was asked two questions and although I thought it was odd that the interview was so short, I left feeling quite confident.

I have read on here that it is possible to get a job offer in the near future through the “waiting list”, but after the initial excitement (yeah I know…) to now feeling very deflated, Even if I was offered the role I’d go in feeling not good enough and quite low on confidence after what I see as a rejection.

My wife said that perhaps the role was offered to someone already on the waiting list from the last round of interviews. But it’s difficult not to take it personal, especially after such a short interview.

Ask the recruiter if their is roles in nearby DOs unless you specifically want the one you applied for. I wouldn't read too much into it, probably just interviewed few people for 1 role.

I wish I could buy you a pint!!!

This morning I did exactly what you advised and I was called back an hour later and offered a role at a near by Depot! I’m over the moon, it hasn’t sunk in yet. I start in a weeks time.

Thanks so much for the advice.

How old are you, if I may ask? Just take it slow. Remember you cannot transfer for six months so you are locked in there. Just don't be too eager right now. However, remember you are joining at the busiest time so try to embrace the chaos.

Good luck!

Had my visit (or ‘tour’ as the recruiter called it in the email) of the DO I’ll be starting at this morning. Very friendly manager that wasn’t expecting me and said they don’t usually do on site inductions but was very happy to give me a quick little look around.

It’s a lot smaller than the one I had my interview at and the manager did say that it’s manic at the moment and I’ll be in at the deep end but to try and stay calm and crack on I should be okay lol. As I said though, very friendly and although I didn’t have much time to ask questions they answered what I did ask.

One thing I’m a bit concerned with is after filling In the online medical form last week, I’ve had the document back and it says “further investigation and a call from a OT practitioner”. I’m guessing it’s because when asked about mental health history I answered honestly and said I was antidepressants a few years back after a rough time and I do now and again suffer with mild anxiety but I manage it and have done for over decade. Will they likely say I’m ’unfit’ for the role on the back of this? I wanted to answer it honestly but I’m feeling now like I shouldn’t have…

Also do I have to contact them or will they call me? I’m supposed to be starting next Tuesday at the DO (Monday is online induction) and don’t want this to hold that up if possible.

They would be on dodgy ground if they withdrew an offer (or didn't make you an offer this far down the line) based on your input on the medical form - on a basic level it would be discrimination.

I had had problems with stress 15+ years before joining RM and didn't mention it before I started, and I didn't have any problems for about 5 or 6 years. When the stress started to build up I informed RM during an annual update and was called by an Occupational Health referral company. In my case, because I was already an employee I guess, they set up some phone counselling (getting counselling to help with stress while working at RM was like going skiing to help fix a broken leg). More importantly though, they put it on my records and sent a letter confirming it - and that it would be seen as a disability under the Equality Act. That meant that RM had to tread a bit carefully when dealing with me if I did have any further problems with stress. And under the sick policy at the time it also meant that when I did take time off sick due to stress, RM couldn't use it against me with warnings etc.

The best advice that I could give is that when you do start, don't mention it to colleagues! The average postie in my old DO used it as an excuse to do borderline bullying and make snide comments. One day just after I'd gone out on delivery the union rep was heard to say "he's not right in the head" about me. So if you decide to follow the advice of "it's good to talk" be careful who to talk to and what you say!

Thanks for the reply fb!

And wow… the rep sounds a massive moron. I’m quite a private person so try not tell many (if anyone really) and stick with my family and close circle of friends, but I’m habit to listen to anyone regarding MH because I’ve been there myself and know it can be a rough time.

It sounds like you had to put up with some very unfair s**t! Hope things are good for you now.

Thanks, I actually left two years ago. Got out of RM after 10 years and that and a few things outside of RM all went tits up at the same time and I had a breakdown. Still rebuilding myself and now working for a very small company that has many of the same poor management problems as RM, but the stress level is next to zero.

We are all different, I've often heard it said that depression is a sign of strength rather than weakness. You keep on going and going when a lot of people would have eased off and slowed down. That was my issue, I wanted to get everything done everyday and when it did become too much it became a problem because suddenly we couldn't complete the round (when others failed every day and nothing was said). About six months after I left, my van share partner of 7 years also left - so it wasn't just me! More than "happy" to accept that it was a particularly bad office.

Happy to receive a PM if you want to say anything off the main forum.

Similar thing happened to me mate, so I know exactly how you felt. Just head down and kept grinding until I hit a brick wall and it took me a while to get back to myself, but it definitely takes its toll doesn’t it.

It definitely sounds like it was the environment which had a huge part in your stress levels going to the extreme.

I really appreciate that mate and will definitely take you up on it.
