Postcomm publishes final proposals on Royal Mail's compensation schemes

LINK

1 April 2008

Postcomm, the independent regulator for postal services, has today announced it is minded to accept Royal Mail’s proposed changes to its retail compensation arrangements for lost, damaged and delayed mail.

The regulator has conducted a public consultation and worked closely with Royal Mail and Postwatch to address concerns about the complexity of Royal Mail’s current compensation schemes for retail customers and some inconsistency in how they are applied.

The key changes to the retail compensation arrangements for loss, damage and delay are:

* if the item was posted with Royal Mail, there will be compensation for loss, damage and delay where an item has no intrinsic value or where a claimant cannot provide proof of posting;
* loss and damage to items with an intrinsic value, with proof of posting with Royal Mail and proof of value, will entitle customers to a postage refund plus compensation for actual loss;
* the £5 and £10 payments for delay and substantial delay will be removed, except for Special Delivery Next Day;
* compensation for delayed retail mail will become payable one day earlier than at present;
* redirected mail will be eligible for compensation for delay; and
* users of the Articles for the Blind service will be able to claim compensation for loss, damage and delay.

Postcomm will decide whether to remove the bulk compensation scheme from regulation when it makes a final decision on Royal Mail’s application for suspension of the scheme and the so-called “C-factorâ€

So am i right in thinking that all i need to do is make a complaint/claim and even though there is no proof of posting anything,i'll get weighed out!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Seems like that but you'd probably only get the cost of the postage.

That happens already. I have heard of people that routinely complain to Royal Mail that something has gone missing in the post when it hasn't just to get the dozen first class stamps as compensation. Minor fraudulent claims all of them but it's common practice and as far as I know they always get away with it.

re: Cheaper to pay out stamps than challenege

Post by F0zziebear »

It is cheaper for RM to give out a book of stamps than spend adminstration time investigating it.

A book of stamps doesn't cost RM much at all as it's like giving away free vouchers to use the leisure centre. The leisure centre going to be open away in the same way that RM was going to pick up that mail, sort and deliver it.

If they gave out cash then it would be a problem

If they investigated these claims and challenged them it would cost even more in labour costs
