What went wrong during my interview?

Post by Sunshinesam »

Hi all, I'm a veteran and ex delivery driver looking for work and applied to Royal Mail yesterday and completed all the online assessments, with an interview in Salisbury today. When i turned up at the Salisbury office I was told the gentleman that should have been interviewin̈g me was unavailable and after 5 minutes a gentleman from another office came and performed the meeting.

I was asked 2 questions - why do I wanto work for Royal Mail and do i having delivery experience.

I was shown around the office and everything was explained. My driving licence and birth certificate were photographed on his phone ( the photocopier was broken) and I read the compulsory 20m number plate. Really don't feel I had a good chance to perform well by being interviewed so poorly. Is that it?

It seems nothing went wrong.
If you were under the illusion that Royal Mail was a professionally run organisation then you were probably disappointed.

Let the photocopier serve as an indication of the direction of the company.
We are broken but some of us still manage to have a bit of fun every now and again.

I hope you get the job. I hope you enjoy it.
Just don't expect too much.

Possibly the interviewer was worried that with your background you would be prepared to stand up for yourself and not be messed about in the way that management tend to do with new starters. If there is another office nearby then maybe apply there if something comes up.

I mean this as a complement, not a criticism or insult.
Royal Mail
failing the workforce, failing the public and deliberately failing mail on a daily basis for too many years.

I'm very sorry you didn't get the job, there is certainly nothing Royal about RM.

I am currently working as parcel delivery driver in my town, there are five of us regular folk doing the same agency shift, two new lads turned up a couple of weeks back ( nothing strange in that ) only they get 40 parcels and the original bunch get 60-80. We were told when we started that they usually keep a couple of agency staff on full time after the contract ends at xmas, we were asked who would be interested, i was one and a couple of others were maybe's. After the new lads turned up we asked a really nice manager what the script was with the number of parcels being dished out......oh they are the sons of a manager at a different depot and were seeing if they liked it!!

He was honest enough to say it's not right but out of his hands.

My personal experience of RM is it's great when you leave the yard in the van, but the absolute inept management holds the company back and causes you anxiety at the depot, i had a dodgy pda that was turning off/on at random times, i asked FOUR managers how to get round the issue and was even told 'i'm management not a random?? wtf?
I've given up on logic now, i go in, scan and get off.
