Angard offering higher pay from October to January to temporary workers, how can I get this rate too?

Post by Filthycasual »

On their website I've noticed that they're offering about £3ph more to temp workers in my area from October to January. Afaik I'm not getting that pay rise so it seems unfair to be earning significantly less than new starters for the same job.

Do you think I could enquire about this and ask to be paid the same? That seems unlikely to work tbh. Only other alternative I can think of is quitting and reapplying for the same job but that seems a bit ridiculous.

Realistically, by the time you’ve waited for them to process your resignation, got your P60, gone through the application process, waited for another induction etc etc, it’s not going to be worth the hassle, and you’d be back to square one regarding your 12-week AWR timescale once the Xmas rates have finished.

Not sure about asking Angard but agree it’s unlikely to work…

Incidentally this type of thing is not unusual by any means, many jobs give a ‘signing on bonus’ at certain times of year; typically in the form of a lump sum, but here, because there’s no defined number of hours, the signing on bonus (if you call it that) is spread across an enhanced per hour rate.

Thanks for the info and good points, I hadn't considered the awr thing, I'm not familiar with that. So after 12 weeks I get a pay increase? How much exactly is that increase? I'm on £13.37ph currently. Perhaps it varies but do you have any idea of a ball park figure based on your experience? I don't see anything about it in my contract.

No worries. You should have been given a rate-card for your MC. Will vary by MC and shift pattern.

Days are the lowest (I think) then earlies, then lates are a bit more and all your antisocial hours ones are more still.

I think the lowest at my MC is around £14.30 then it’s over £15/h for nights, and you get another raise at the 26 weeks mark (weeks of attendance not calendar weeks).

As soon as you hit the 12-weeks mark you’ll get paid breaks as well, which the new starters won’t get.

When I was working for Angard last Christmas season at the Mount Pleasant mail centre, my hourly rate was automatically increased ( i think to match the royalmail Christmas casuals rate ) for about 12 weeks from about late October through to early January.
I didn't get many shifts though!
I hope this info helps

I was going to send email to Payroll and ask about it. There are some new people who started on higher rate than people working for years and past 3rd rate increase. They are quite unhappy, that newbies are getting paid more.

I checked Angard website and they advertising these higher rates from 14th of October:
"Pay Rates – STARTING FROM OCTOBER 14TH – JANUARY 12TH"

And directly with RM, higher rates are from 28th of October.

So far, all my timesheets are at usual, standard rates.
------------
I sent email to Payroll on 13th of November asking the question about Christmas rates.

Yes, but you will revert to the boggo rate from 12th january and then need to do your 12 weeks AWR again.
