We have this exact same problem in our office. I printed off the said 1996 agreement and gave a copy to my rep. He turned round and said there has since been a new agreement and that we have to prep in our own time. So where is this new agreement? We have been told for several years now that D2D should be preped in your own time and so now everyone believes it.opgpat wrote:A simple question- is this agreement still in force?
I am specifically interested in the section at the top of page 8 which says that this agreement has been 'jointly endosed' (RM &CWUI?) and states that 'It is accepted that the principle of Door to Door being paid as a unit payment is that it will be absorbed within normal duty time' and the section at top of page 9 which states '...sufficient time will be given for the preparation and delivery of Door to Door items within normal duty span'.
I ask because everyone I've asked in our office believes they have to come in before their start time to prep their D2D - or stay after their shift ends to prep it then. A few have said they would like to start at their official time but can't because they are told by managers that D2D has to be prepped in their own time. I asked rep but he said he hadn't come across this agreement before and wasn't sure if it would still be valid due to it being from 1996.
cheers.

As far as D2D is concerned, here is an excerpt from a letter I received from Bob Gibson on this very issue, our local management take the same view i.e. "You are paid extra for them, therefore you should prep them in your own time". As for your rep he is talking absolute rubbish- he ought to be ashamed of himself!
"The issue regarding prep time to do D2D is probably the most contentious for our members but the important thing to remember here is that D2D is done in duty time, as stated in the current national agreement. Although the agreement is not specific about this in respect of the prep time it is clear that the prep and delivery should be completed within duty time and at no detriment to the delivery specification".

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

20% premium if it arrives 1 day late and 40% if it arrives 2 days late.
If it arrives 3 days late (ie Wednesday) you don't have to do them.
The cover man should do 20% per day just like you. I did when I was a floater. However if my cover man says he cant or does not want to do it I throw them all in and ask him to take where he is going - at least he does not have to prep them then.
D2Ds on a Saturday is not allowed in My DO as the contract is for delivery Monday - Friday (not Saturday).
TBH my rep - and he posts on here occasionally - seems to have done a lot a good work behind the scenes - especially when compared to other units posting on here- so a cyber pat on the back from me.

Just this very morning we had a meeting with management and this was mentioned. I too have also been of the impression that we (unfairly), are meant to do them in our own time. The management said exactly that again this morning!
I'll be printing off a few copies of the agreement I think after I've read it.
Does it clearly state it's to be done with in contracted hours and also about arriving late meaning 20%, 40%, payment increase???

If I remember correctly it states in agreement 20% a day Mon to Fri if it's not in the agreement then I have read it elsewhere d2d should all be completed by friday and it should be allowed in your prep at 20% a day.disgruntledpostie1 wrote:It's nice to be appreciatedcantypeANDSHOUTS wrote:i can also confirm for you thats it is all built in to your duty time(supposedly).i found this out after my DO to would come in early and stay la8 to prep d2ds..that nice young man disguntled postie set me straight(i say nice young man but he was taking the piss outta me on other matters at the time, lol) found and read the whole thing..also found out if your d2ds arrive late for first prep delivery you may get a higher rate and monday ours where late ,im waiting to see how much i get then complain if its normal.lol......

I'm led to believe that the contract royal mail signs with the customer states that their items will be delivered by the friday of the agreed week, so they should not be taken out on the saturday. My DOM told me I had to prep them in my own time so I told him if it was in my time then it must be voluntary to do them at all, as anything I do in my time is my choice . . . he soon backed down and now I prep them in prep time, result.

A colleague was told this morning that if he prepped his DTD's in his frame before leaving the office then he could not claim for extended delivery as the payment for the DTD's was intended to cover that. I have forwarded the relevant link to the agreement which should sort things out for him. I get the impression that some managers are not sticking to the script and need to read up on what is correct before expecting us to just roll over and work for nothing. This forum is such a help in situations like this. It's like having Clare Rayner at your elbow.

The thing that really pi**%s me off about all this is, whether you apply the rules as we know them or roll over and do what RM want, the pure fact is there isn't sufficient time to prep them in duty time, at least for most of us! Yet our office is constantly being told we have too many indoor hours! What a joke! When you raise the issue of D2D's you are treated like a nuisance and told they are not part of indoor workload and therefore don't count. Isn't it about time they did? The hassle you get if you try and argue the points we have made on this thread, is unbelievable. The fact is we don't have a choice we have to do them, which is where their arguement falls down. What's worse when the idiots at CWU headquarters agreed the Pay and modernisation rubbish, they clearly never considered the D2D issue and the time the prep of these things takes. Moreover they seem to agree with RM that there is loads of dead time in deliveries, otherwise how can they glibly talk about flexibility, + or - 30 mins etc, I ask on this forum for all Branches to support any motion of no confidence in the National officers and PEC at conference, perhaps we might then get agreements which make sense and get rid of these jokers!
