Leave while off sick

I retired on my retirement date but had been on long term sick and when I left I was told I will not be paid my 3 weeks annual leave which I couldn't take because I was off sick, is this right of royal mail to do this.

If you are on long term sick and you have leave booked, isn't the leave cancelled to be taken later? I thought you could not be sick and on leave at the same time, or is this a new policy?

If you are on long term sick and you have leave booked, isn't the leave cancelled to be taken later? I thought you could not be sick and on leave at the same time, or is this a new policy?

You can't be sick and on annual leave at the same time. The annual leave that you would have taken when off sick is supposed to be credited back. By changing them to annual leave and then back to sick it quickly bumps them through the stages to a stage 2 or a stage 3.

They will make you take it as planned, you will not be allowed to build up 2 years worth of annual leave. (If off sick for 12 momths)

You can't be sick and on annual leave at the same time. The annual leave that you would have taken when off sick is supposed to be credited back. By changing them to annual leave and then back to sick it quickly bumps them through the stages to a stage 2 or a stage 3.

That is discounted for stage purposes, it is still treated as 1 abscence.

Not just company policy, but the LAW. Sick is sick, if you can't take your annual leave from from work because you are already off sick it accrues and rolls over if necessary.

Hmmm thanks! i stand corrected.
I have seen someone recently on LTS switch to AL then back to LTS (maybe it was their own decision in order to get full pay then) they have been off around 9 months.

You might be offered to use outstanding leave, once you are on long term sick leave and have used up the rolling (4 year?) limit of full pay sick pay and half pay sick pay (six months for each?), but it's your choice once offered.

Or at least that's how I remember it from summer '23.

As a rule you shouldn't be sick - take AL - then go back on the sick.
I have never heard of someone being forced to do this although I guess it does happen.

Something I do seem to remember but it's very sketchy and I can't find it is there was something about taking holiday off people who had accured a lot from being long term sick. Possibly management.

Not 100% on it though.
