Re: RM - to hike first-class stamps to £1.65
What I find interesting is that no other logistics/ parcel service wants to come anywhere near delivering letters, once the cost went past £1 it was open for any takers, in my opinion it’s only a matter of time before 1st class disappears to be replaced by tracked 24.

£3.50 if you book it online, presumably Moonpig etc get a lower rate though as business customers.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 11:23How much is it to send a T24 letter? like one of them Moonpigs.

Even worse. Management won't want posties to keep delivering all the 2c letters in that area every day so there will even more frames full of mail. How it will all work out is anyones guess but I Imagine that singleton fixed duty holder's may be something of a luxury.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Re: RM - to hike first-class stamps to £1.65
We don't even deliver much stamped mail anyway. Any stamped mail is typically postcards or cards.
It's mostly franked mail that we deliver. How much do businesses pay to send franked mail? I assume far less than what a 1st class stamp costs...
According to google it's £0.11 cheaper to send franked, but I am wondering if these companies that send out marketing materials get it for much cheaper because of the volumes of mail they send.

I wonder how many customers who buy cards from Clinton Cards etc still send them rather than just hand deliver them?qwerty2 wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 16:51RM are putting card companies out of businessted_e_bear wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 13:15£3.50 if you book it online, presumably Moonpig etc get a lower rate though as business customers.kazardaimenu wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 11:23How much is it to send a T24 letter? like one of them Moonpigs.

Odd isn't it, how it seems to be around the UK. We still get quite a fair amount and a good sprinkling of grey surcharge cards. New builds are a constant feeding factor I think. We have thousands of them and more in the pipeline ready to go imminently, it seems to trigger more mail across the entire area.norris9 wrote: ↑07 Sep 2024, 17:40We don't even deliver much stamped mail anyway. They were bound to increase the price and no that their will be another increase by April. Am hoping this might have in part something to do with a pay increase next April which I hope they are negotiating.

They’re not getting their own way so it looks like the plan is to get rid of 1st by price increases, then they go back to OFCOM and say no one wants 1st Class anymore so why do we have to stick to our USO obligations?
Privatisation is death by a thousand cuts.

They expect it to to drop from 7 billion to 4 billion letters by 2027, but most likely it will be between 2 and 3 billion with the price rises so their won't be a need for a 6 day service and he knows it.

Not even trying to hide their plans so why the government isn’t sticking its oar in more to very specifically spell out what is expected of the national mail service is rather baffling. They are heavy users of RM just like the NHS, so the need for it to be protected and not priced out of existence is pretty clear.

Most of what we deliver is surely junk - mass marketing materials. If Royal Mail want mail to die out so they can focus predominantly on parcels, surely most of what they need to do is make it too expensive for companies to send out all this junk mail...Barnacle wrote: ↑08 Sep 2024, 14:50Not even trying to hide their plans so why the government isn’t sticking its oar in more to very specifically spell out what is expected of the national mail service is rather baffling. NHS letters, important information, banking communications, house purchase documents, passport documents etc... all the important stuff will all still be sent, but it will be an ever more expensive service to use as less people use it.
Right now - I feel mail volumes are still ridiculously high considering we are well into the digital era. Large homes in wealthy areas get mail 5 or 6 days out of 6 and several letters a day! - I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT INFORMATION THESE PEOPLE NEED ON A DAILY BASIS VIA MAIL!...
What does the average person need through the post in terms of letters each year? - barely anything. The odd NHS letter maybe? some birthday and Xmas cards....What else do you need unless you are buying a home and sending and receiving documents to complete a home purchase.

Re: RM - to hike first-class stamps to £1.65
My mail in the last week, was double what it was the week before and that was heavy as it was. Despite the best efforts of the owners of RM, there are still millions of people using mail every day and that includes all the government departments which depend on letters to reach people - there are over a million households with no internet connection whatsoever. So it’s not going to be a quick death.norris9 wrote: ↑08 Sep 2024, 16:18Most of what we deliver is surely junk - mass marketing materials. Oh I know that the notion of ‘service’ is supposed to be dead but customers still think we are part of the Post Office. They still think we’re a service and have high expectations of a level of service.Bounced_Czech wrote: ↑08 Sep 2024, 16:04It's not been a national service since privatisation, I'm sure the government have way more s**t to try and fix than letter deliveries. The whole country is in a shambles compared to 15 years ago. Nothing short of criminal.
