Hi all, long time since I've posted on here as I left RM about 4 years ago to go back to trucking.
I have an interview/assessment for a Class 1 HGV driver next week and was wondering what will be involved?
What is the job actually like? I get the seniority bit and that I'll end up with the stuff nobody else wants but what about how many hours worked a day/week? Overtime? The contract is 36 hours, but is paid overtime available?
How do the rota's work with nights, weekends and bank holidays?
I currently work mon to fri but even though it's 12 hour days I still have my weekends albeit tired.

Hello, where I work, there are enough duties to choose so that we never work on weekends or bank holidays, crap stuff goes to agencies.
Once we pick our duties, we do same duty with same pattern, time depots for like a year or two until the network review is done
Regarding overtime, it depends which duties you choose, we have drivers doing 4 day duty and getting upto 12 hrs overtime a week, and getting paid 55k a year working on nights(you get around 4.5k extra for working nights)
If you want more overtime it's not a problem until you reach your driving and working time hours.
So all in all best job with best money and relaxed environment.

That's great info, thanks! I'm actually looking to reduce my current hours which is 50-55 a week so I think RM hours look good.
Do you know what they are like for infringements? Reason I ask is I'm pretty good at manual entries as I do them every day, but a few weeks back I messed it up and had to go 'over my hours' so to speak. And only today I missed my WTD. I rarely make a mistake like that but today was one of those days.

Regarding infringements, I think it's hit and miss
One of my friends was refused for assessment but other one was allowed to do assessment and interview.
However, he his yet to know his result.

I'm in a similar situation as yourself I left ten years ago on EVR to pursue a career in HGV and now looking to come back. I've been waiting for this opportunity for a good while now as these opportunities don't come around often. Like you I will have lost my seniority I'd built up of twenty years but happy to start again.
