This Morning star Matthew Wright has been left devastated and at the 'lowest point' as scammers managed to steal £19K from his accounts after he fell victim to a delivery fraud message.

Matthew Wright has opened up about how scammers have taken £19,000 from his bank account this week after he fell victim to a virtual fraud. The LBC host explained to listeners how the fraudsters sent an email impersonating courier company Evri - detailing how he had missed the delivery of a laptop.

The presenter was moving house - something he documented online - and had a myriad of packages arriving to his house, including a laptop, meaning he didn't suspect anything. The email had an option to click a link to rearrange the delivery - which he did and then entered his credit card details for a £2.50 delivery fee.

Explaining how he thought 'no more of it', Matthew's laptop arrived the following day but wasn’t delivered by Evri. He shared: "Later in that day, I got a message from American Express asking if I’d clicked on a link for an Evri scam, I said. 'Yeah I had.'"

Going on to spend an hour on the phone with a person claiming to be from American Express, Matthew explained how he went through the transaction details. "This incredibly helpful man also said he was notifying my bank to let them know about it. At the end of this very long conversation, he hung up saying: 'You’ll probably hear from the bank next.'

"I hung up the phone and, within about ten seconds, it was my bank listing all these dodgy transactions on my accounts, saying I had to change all my logins, my password. I then told them what my login and password were so they could be changed. And I still hadn’t twigged," he shared.

But then, when Matthew got a call from his real bank just moments later, he realised he hadn't spoke to anyone legitimate thus far. After clarifying what had happened with the companies, Matthew managed to cancel most of the transactions, but one for £19,000 is still missing from his account.

Matthew admitted his frustration as he has not yet had an answer on whether the £19,000 will return, and admitted to having 'sleepless nights'.

He added: "This is the second time I’ve fallen prey to the scammers, and once again I find myself kept awake at night worrying and fretting".

Last month, Matthew shared a snap of all of his packed boxes as he prepared to move house, writing to X: "Packing all done, two days non stop but I’m ready to go! Thought I’d be more emotional after 23 years here but no which means it really is time to say goodbye and go the full Worzel after so many years dithering. A new dawn for me tomorrow x."

More likely the scammer just got lucky that one of their texts landed on his phone, although if he's been scammed previously what on earth was he doing clicking on a dodgy link in a text message, when usually they are fairly easy to spot has being fakes.
