I'll wait for the revision notes. I'm not even out of my uniform yet (thanks!).
The machine stops.

I see that the union is collaborating with the far left organisation, Novara media....

Re: CWU LIVE AT 5 – Royal Mail Update!
The CWU should now ve called The Self-Preservation Society. 17,000 new entrants to woo? Good luck with that one!
Just two glaring errors showing how out of touch and unaware of facts the Society is:
(1) He says at 30.50 of the video that new entrants don’t get the Christmas bonus yet they definitely do — both components of it.
(2) A few minutes before, he claims or infers new-entrant workers at Battersea earn only 59p more than the Living Wage — again massively wide of the mark. They earn significantly more than the LW — £14.87 ph.

That's just a few of the mistakes. Claiming that 'everyone gets £29' delivery supplement, constantly moaning that we wouldn't work Sundays when we already do, that we can claw back 25 minutes on the later finishes and on and on. It was awful. Then they wiped the YouTube comments. What a union.Smoothbackground wrote: ↑16 Aug 2024, 05:25The CWU should now ve called The Self-Preservation Society. 17,000 new entrants to woo? The most worrying thing is that Martin Walsh feigned ignorance about the reduction in the USO performance that's been agreed now, today. I'd put money on a nasty industrial petty war at the heart of the CWU where the full time release mob are getting revenge for being told what to do. Whilst these people f**k about with their personal vendettas the members are getting s**t on day after day. The CWU is truly 'bullshit'.

It's is the recent historic ( the last 20 years) negligence of the CWU to defend what rights we had. They became complacent and inactive while we were telling them what was going on.
All of this is at their door. We have been failed by them every step.

Why are they aligning with Novara (or is it Novaro?) media? I have zero time for them.
There were some interesting facts in there. I’m less keen when he talked of other countries watering down the USO. That smacks of ‘everyone else is doing it, so why not us?’.

Re: CWU LIVE AT 5 – Royal Mail Update!
A while back when dingo (Martin Walsh) was on here explaining that automation was the 'gamechanger' many posties felt that the Union were closely aligning themselves with the company's vision rather than ours, and little has changed. RM's revenues for the last financial year haven't declined - they have actually increased to March 2024 (12,679 million as opposed to 12,044 million in 2023), and this is excluding the election material. We seem to be turning the corner as a company regarding profitability yet it is still being used as a stick to beat us with.
While letter volumes have declined along with our market share of parcels, is it not patently obvious that unachievable workloads means that the company must be doing quite well? Group revenues only reveal half the story regarding our overall profitability on the balance sheet because it doesn't take into account the billions of pounds that has been spent in the past on parcel hubs, shareholders and executive and management bonuses. RM has been deliberately posting losses for years due to this and because they desperately want rid of the USO. That is why management have been consistently failing oversized duties even though they will surely profit from it in the longer term.
There is a rather broad generalisation being made around a postal bag being worth £500 10 years ago only being worth £250 now given that postage has more than doubled in price and we are delivering shedloads more parcels where the money is now. Added to the fact that many duties are routinely failing and expecting posties to do double the workload in terms of letters unfortunately this is where our real growth is going to come from in the future imho.

On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Martin Walsh wrote: ↑18 Aug 2024, 18:11Let’s deal with some of the points.
The hourly rate of the old contract National is £14.44 with the delivery supplement.
The national hourly rate for new entrants is £12.57
The national living wage is £12.00 per hour and the national minimum wage hourly rate is £11.44
In terms of London and in particular the outer London rate the old contract receive in deliveries £16.98 per hour including the delivery supplement.
The new contracts only have one London rate and that is £14.92 per hour.
The London living wage hourly rate is £13.15.
...
We are in talks and will update members in the next couple of weeks.
Martin, thanks for coming on here and responding to this thread.
I got from the youtube video that the company are pretty resistant to restoring parity for new starts at the moment. Are you able to give any indication what the union are aiming for for them?
Would you be looking to give new starts the option to one day go on to weekly pay?
A pathway to meeting legacy contracts rate of pay (e.g. after three or four years)?

Thank you Martin for the info but do the reps know about all this? as if they don't go on this website they just look puzzled if you quote such figures
