How much do line managers get paid?

No, I don't want to move 'up' but I still want to know.

I would not bother about not having any managerial experience most of the managers don't, RM will accept you with open arms.

Are you sure that being a manager is a move "up"? You'll be office-based full-time so you won't get the outdoor exercise you get now. Your stress levels will rise. You'll be told what you must do but you will also be told you must do it without the resources you really need. Do you need the hassle?

Unless, perhaps, the DO you currently work in is an exception to the RM norm and its friendly efficiency has inspired you? If so, please tell us all how it's done, so we can press for reform everywhere...

Any long term plan should start off by leaving RM and getting a job where you'll be appreciated and if you do go into management be allowed to manage (all I want is a job that I can come in, do my work and go home without having to deal with all the crap that is thrown at us on a regular basis).

Piece in The Guardian Work Section Sat :-"Knowledge is Power " -" It was only only once I had started to experience difficulties with the role that I found out several other people had either "failed " their probation period or left the organization shortly after starting ; and it was only then I discovered my team had been receiving training for being dysfunctional . It was a bit of a shock , I'd another job offer at the time , if I'd known any of the history before starting I might have taken the other one ".

http://www.guardian.co.uk

Royal Mail certainly does have cultural problems , history and is dysfunctional full stop .

Google the Sawyer report on RM IR , and the "solution" The Kray Twins being put in charge .

Read ex service personnel like Moderator Teebs and his views as he's used to a better chain of command , google Asda /GMB IR , RM isn't that different with that clown thinking he's still running ASDA ,

Check out the CMA /Amicus Unite Leadership , their leaders aren't in Reg Holdsworth's fan club , best one was in a HYS Newspaper online " I took the money , with RM ; I was just a bum on a seat , I've got a new job and appreciate being part of a organization . "

There's plenty of stress cases with glorified supervisors taking tablets like sweets due to that regimented 70's Command & Control style .Drinking less caffeine filled coffee would reduce stress though along with less websurfing and playing Solitaire .
