Man (51) is accused of stealing almost £20,000 from Royal Mail

A 51-year-old man is accused of stealing £19,408 from the Royal Mail.

Barry Falls, of Kilmakevit Square, Cullybackey, is alleged to have committed the offence between November 2020 and November 2023. He appeared in the dock at Ballymena Magistrates Court on Thursday, August 7.

A defence solicitor applied for legal aid saying the accused is "on benefits". His case was adjourned to September 5. A prosecutor said two co-accused have already appeared at court.

On July 11 this year at Ballymena Court, a man was accused of fraud by abuse of position. He is Samuel Christie (45), with an address given as that of the Royal Mail delivery office in Railway Street in Ballymena.

He faces a charge that on 'dates between November 2020 and October 2023, whilst occupying a position in which you were expected to safeguard, or not to act against the financial interests of Royal Mail Group, dishonestly abused that position in that you made fraudulent overpayments to Barry Falls and David Kinnear'.

Also at the July 11 court, David Kinnear (55), whose address was given as Westbourne Avenue in Ballymena, was charged with theft of £6,624 belonging to Royal Mail Group 'on dates between May 2021 and October 2023'.

Those cases had been adjourned to September 5.
