How does this work for those of us on 30 hour contracts (six hours a day)? At the moment we're on 5hr 50 minute days. Does this mean we're not entitled to any break? I know, legally, under six hours a day doesn't entitle you to a break but that doesn't stop companies offering it anyway.
If so, that means I have to work 20 minutes longer on the short days than on the standard days.
AFAIK in RM you're entitled to the same amount of break under the 'new' style contracts as the 'old'. It's 'just' the 'new' contracts don't get paid
for the break, how that works with SISO is a mystery to me. Anyway that's my understanding, prepared to be corrected.
From the Way Forward Agreement:
Attendance length total breaks probable pattern
Less than 2 hours 30 minutes none (a 10 min grace break should be provided if work permits)
2 hours 30 to 3 hours 10 mins 10
3 hours 1 to 3 hours 30 15 mins 15
3 hours 31 to 4 hours 59 20 mins 20
5 hours to 7 hours 30 mins 30
7 hours 1 to 8 hours 59 40 mins 40 or 20 + 20
9 hours to 10 hours 59 50 mins 30 + 20
11 hours to 12 hours 59 60 mins 40 + 20 or 30 + 30
13 hours or longer 70 mins 40 + 30

It’s ridiculous that new people get unpaid breaks as I was with new one today, I had break but he said he will start delivering as his break is unpaid so basically just met him
In van where he was waiting 30 minutes for me! So basically he did have a paid break and no one is checking he says so can’t blame him, it’s another ridiculous rule which is being broken and not working

He needs to keep a detailed record of his hours/OT as on another thread someone said that a manager was automatically deducting
30 mins from these new bods. If they're getting paid monthly it's an admin nightmare to go back and try and prove whether your wages
are correct trying to account for OT only being paid monthly, accounting for your unpaid break (if it was taken or not) and are managers making 'automatic' deductions.
If he was waiting for you his PDA was probably static and apparently there's a 'circle of doom' created when you're static and the managers can see this the day after - as I said he needs to check his pay carefully as he might not be getting a paid break after all.

You get 30mins meal relief between 5 - 7 hrs
Thank you (and Yellowbelly). I thought it kicked in at six hours.
Six years and no-one's told me this. I asked a manager once if I went over 7 hours on overtime would I get extra meal relief and he said 'no'.
You never know if they're knowingly lying or just incompetent. probably a bit of both.
You can have your 20mins before you go out or while out on delivery, and then go home 20mins earlier than your finish time. And if you do go over duty time, you can then book that last 20mins as overtime but not the full 40mins. But count yourself lucky the new starters aren’t entitled to breaks or paid for breaks depending on shift patterns.

You should not be going home 20 mins early, you should remain in the office and scan out at the correct time.
It's only a matter of time before pay gets linked to SISO data
We've recently been told by our Manager that within about 3 months they (RM?) expect Wages will be linked to SISO. I think he's looking forward to it because it's something else HE doesn't have to do, although I pointed out that he should be carful .... as the more work he doesn't have to do the less of a JOB there is to justify employing him.
The upside is a least he can't cock up the overtime. To return to Meal Breaks it wouldn't surprisse me if we end up getting our Meal Relief voted away in a future pay deal, especially if the New Starters don't get paid for it now. One off them recently pointed out that he's paid MONTHLY so I expect we can look forward to that as well.
I think it's a matter of urgency that the CWU work harder to get our New Starter Colleagues onto the better T & Cs.
Like all Wage Slaves, he had two crosses to bear: The people he worked for and the people he worked with! (Stephen Vizinczey.)

I can also see everything you envisage happening, I'm surprised the paid breaks haven't been attacked already, not too sure about pay linked to siso though, myself and a few hardcore don't start early despite approaching 75% I think of the office doing so.
But for some reason management are offering early ips nearly every day that we absolutely don't need so that has a knock on effect of getting folk out the door earlier which results in early finishes for some which of course will be affected.

How can o/t ever be linked to SISO without some input/authorisation from a manager, as otherwise we could all just sign out 2 hours late, or early, and get paid 2 hours OT each day we did it?

I take it you're saying Posties are going to hang around and then SISO out later? Can't see them getting away with it earlier because the Brown Nosers are already in taking the piss for doing nothing!
We did have three guys working a nightshift in a small toolshop (in another life). They used to take a night off in rotation and the others used the clock them in, and out. Worked fine until the Manager made a surprise night time visit then they all got the sack.
Can't see that working in RM though, most Managers can't even be bothered to work to midDay without making surprise visits later on. .
