Interview on Friday
Good afternoon. It's the lazy approach, I know, but I thought I'd ask the question before searching previous threads. I have an interview for Postperson with Driving on Friday. I'd be very grateful for any and all hints and tips - likely questions, buzzwords they might want to hear, things to ask...anything you might think useful for a newbie. Many thanks in advance!

No offence but it will be congratulations, you got the job!
The turnover of new staff has in my opinion reached a new high, newbies are just not staying.
But if you are ex-forces you will probably be fit, so you will have a head start.
It’s NOT a great job no more but wish you luck.

Hey Navybloke. Flexiblility would probably be the chosen buzzword if you are looking for one.
I would also ask about training for driving the electric vans - if your depot has some (you could always ask the question).
If you are accepted, give yourself a couple of weeks settling in period, because you will be learning many new delivery rounds and also you could be in a van share situation as well.
Beware of dogs and constantly check for rain in the weather forecast.

If you are young enough to get back to school, get some education, I would not recommend being a postman to my worst enemy, it's an idiots job

Things may have changed (but unlikely as its RM), some of the questions I remember from my interview.
Give and example of when you've had to change your plans at the last minute (to prepare you for being ready to one round being moved to another at the last minute).
What things can you check on a vehicle without opening the bonnet - lights, tyres, wiper, washer jets, horn, damage. And what would you check with the bonnet open - oil, water, washer level.

As it appears you are ex forces you may be majorly shocked by:
1. The inability of managers to manage.
2. The lack of Health and Safety (or any formal training).
3. In a lot of DO's there isn't the 'teamwork' you'll have been used to in the Forces - it's everybody for themselves.
4. The state of vans and equipment you're provided with.

I had an interview today. It was basically check your id explain a bit about the job. I was asked to say a bit about myself explain safe driving and about my fitness. I was asked why I wanted to work for Royal Mail. I was asked about any holiday I had booked.
He asked me about flexibility to do extra hours or work in other offices.
I asked my rehearsed questions which took almost as long as the interview.
He showed me around the sorting office and explained the sorting process, walks etc. He asked me to read a numberplate in the car park.
I got the impression they'd be offering me a job.
With your forces background I'll guess your fitness tops mine. If you come across professionally and honest, and as flexible as you can be I doubt you will struggle. Its one of the easiest interviews I've ever had.
Read up on Royal Mail and the basic delivery process like the frame etc. Any prior knowledge will impress them it seems. Good luck.
