PARIS (AFP) — The French state-run postal service, La Poste, reported on Thursday a net profit of nearly a billion euros (1.5 billion dollars) and said it would pay a profit-sharing bonus to its employees for the first time.

The company is also to pay 141 million euros, about 15 percent of its net profit, as a dividend to the state.

Net profit totalled 943 million euros, operating profit reached 1.285 billion euros and sales were 20.8 billion euros, the company said.

There Union is strong their company makes a profit.

Our Union is weak and the company is barley staying even and is falling apart at the seams.

Is there a connection - probably not but hey worth a thought.

PROTECTING THEIR MARKET

Post by traww »

I am quite unusual for an Englishman in that I have always maintained a respect for the French, they protect their way of life, their language and their national identity. It is no coincidence that they have NOT embraced competition and full scale de-regulation of their postal market in the same way we have (or want to), indeed the Germans seem to be taking a step back from this now too. The trouble with this country is we over regulate, over complicate and over manage everything we do. We need to get back to basics and do the basics well. If there is to be a USO, then make it applicable to ALL mail operators, not just RM. Well you all know the rest.............. :arrrghhh

Hopefully Monsieur Sarkosy has enlightened the Tory puppet we have in charge of us that we too could aspire to make a success of our failing business by actually protecting it and sending TNT & DHL packing back to Holland and Germany respectively to concentrate on their markets.

Brown might see that RM could, on a level playing field, return a profit and actually pay a dividend back to UK PLC rather than to the money grabbing high-level cronies currently managing the business.

Royal Mail with Crozier and Leighton in charge is like the Starship Enterprise with Captain Pugwash and Seaman Stains at the helm....... and this ship is sinking........FAST

Merci et a bientot mes amis.

France will have a open market, the only thing they can do is pull out of the EU altogether.

f**k me, we deliver letters and packets. How hard can that be. All this red tape and bullshit is nonsense.

When I joined I thought 'This is OK, not the best paid job in the world but hey, I'm cutting the grass at 2.00pm and thats OK.

Now its a real mess, new start times that have absolutley nothing to do with speed limits, a total lie. Health and safety making life a misery, enforcing new shoes that are more like Gary Glitters platforms. Shoes which, if I am reading the articles right, are causing more damage to peoples ankles than any pair of decent trainers would. And a management system that f***s up the pension and wants the staff to pay for the mistakes it made, while they feather their nests to the tune of millions. While we have to implement massive changes for a poxy pay rise that wasn t worth a wank.

All this european market shite is beyond me. Seems we are the only mail service (I use that word lightly) that has been f****d up its government big time. Looks like the other European mail companies are helped by their Government not hindered.

The mail comes in we sort it and deliver it. How hard can it be............?????

La Poste has a very profitable banking business.

Once upon a time, RM had Girobank, but someone sold that. :mad
