There is no alternative. It makes no sense to not engage with him as strike action will not stop it and would never happen anyway.

Labour have all but confirmed that they will not bring the company back into public ownership. Just today, the Unite union (who have given £3 million to Labour's campaign) have refused to endorse the Labour manifesto saying that it does not go far enough on protecting workers rights and jobs especially as regards the end of zero hours contracts and a complete ban on the practice of "hire and fire" where workers are fired and taken back on with worse pay and conditions.

I believe that Dave Ward's vision of workers having a bigger stake in the company is a cynical attempt to try and make a lot of the changes (that will likely happen anyway) like reduced pay, terms and cons so that old workers are on the new workers inferior contracts, delivering 2 or 3 days worth of mail and parcels being delivered in the late afternoons and weekends more palatable for its existing workers.

Imho they appear to have given up fighting to try and protect our existing jobs. No one really has any confidence in the Union leadership anyway.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

If the Union called a strike, the members would vote for it.

I read a green paper about workers rights. If this has changed dramatically then it's a disgrace by the Labour Party.

The point is £3 million is peanuts to what individual MPs and ministers are going to make with their private dealings with the banks and corporations. 3 milion ?, they are laughing at you. Just ask Chuka Umunna. Do you think this guy is on £25 grand a year ? People's naivety is astonishing. We really get the self serving clowns we deserve.

Chuka Umunna is not an MP anymore, he works for the investment bank JP Morgan. While I agree with you that MPs and their families have made money by owning shares in publicly listed companies like Barclays, HSBC, BP, Sainsbury's and even Royal Mail; there are strict Parliamentary rules which require MPs to register holdings they have in a single company where they own over 15% of its shares or whether their shares in any company are more than £70k. There are a few politicians that have held £50k in shares in a few of these larger companies and on the very rare occasions that these shares double (which takes years btw) that's still a lot less than £3 million!! Only Keith Williams, chairman of IDS, will benefit from a significant sum if and when the company gets sold due to the number of shares that he owns.

Well, you have mentioned that we should have made more of a fuss about it when Royal Mail was being privatised back in 2013. The majority of staff opposed the sell off back then and we were planning to strike even though the government gave us a stake in the company with 10% of its shares. Ironically enough, Chuka Umunna who was shadow business secretary at the time, attacked the government for pushing ahead with this politically motivated fire sale of Royal Mail!! Now he's advising someone over the takeover of the company.

The topic of the UK postal workers union issuing a strike warning to DK is unfortunately now missing on this site as a whole month disappeared, so I can't remember why Dave Ward mentioned it..... :shhhhh

Last stand at the Alamo comes to mind. Personally I don't see it happening - 2022 was the last stand, not that most people grasped that until Christmas Eve had passed.

No we wouldn't, no chance whatsoever it would be like striking in an attempt to stop night turning into day

Just like most on here thought would be a massive no to last agreement.

Do we know for sure that Kretinsky would be a bad owner? Could he be worse than the current board?

The fact he's only prepared to guarantee our T&C's for just 2 years is a concern, you also have to sense he might well have been behind all the changes ST pushed though last year.

I doubt he's an asset stripper but how the job will change under his control is a concern.
