Meal breaks
Here we go again
Due to the later network starts and finishes some at our office were thinking of having our meal break as a whole 40 min in the middle of our working day
And returning to office to have it
Have been instructed this will not be happening
And we will be doing 20 before delivery and 20 at end of duty
Where do we stand on this as we can forsee getting 20 min break between wave 1 and 2
Which could be less than an hour into our day
And due to starting later we prob already had our breakfast

Re: Meal breaks
Well they can’t make you take it right at the start but if you are an hour in then that seems to be above board which is a pain in the arse because you probably just want to crack on at that point and rest later.

Re: Meal breaks
I'm pretty sure this has cropped up previously and the employer can enforce when you take it as long as it's not something silly like after 30 mins of arrival.worktotime wrote: ↑23 Apr 2024, 20:31its your break and you can take it when you want it and how you take it ,![]()

Re: Meal breaks
So to answer the original question I bet they won't allow returning to office for a break for obvious reasons, then I reckon they'll tell you to have it all before going out on delivery.

Re: Meal breaks
Go to show that later starts hasn’t really been thought through ,why would anyone want their break after just one hour of working?
What may happen is your starting time would be pushed even back further so you will get just one wave of letters!
The Union have negotiated a middle ground with management to prevent this but is far from ideal.

Re: Meal breaks
Based on past threads some COMs will allow it to be part taken at the end and some won't. RM need to make a decision, either that allow everyone in all DOs to take some at the end or they don't. Seems from past threads that just abut everything is done differently in different DOs. It's about time that RM started to standardise stuffted_e_bear wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 06:45So to answer the original question I bet they won't allow returning to office for a break for obvious reasons, then I reckon they'll tell you to have it all before going out on delivery.

Re: Meal breaks
That's what I thought, twats, I'll happily take 20 in the middle of the day to eat my sarnie, but I certainly don't want 40 before going out on delivery when I haven't been there very long.hans solo wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 10:13That was the threat i gotSpacePhoenix wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 07:04Based on past threads some COMs will allow it to be part taken at the end and some won't. Re: Meal breaks
A break taken at the end of a duty isn’t a break though is it?

Re: Meal breaks
It would make sense having a break half way through your shift. I would be happy getting the sorting done, then complete half your delivery or if your teamed up with someone then complete one walk and then complete the other walk after your break (which would be around midday).ted_e_bear wrote: ↑24 Apr 2024, 06:45So to answer the original question I bet they won't allow returning to office for a break for obvious reasons, then I reckon they'll tell you to have it all before going out on delivery.
For a manager saying you can't come back to the office and have your break is nonsense. You might need the toilet and the nearest toilet on your route is the office. So you have every right on using facilities and then go for your break.

Re: Meal breaks
Nope thats my view
20 mins isnt really long enough either
We are at the s**t end of the stick now
Ask your managers where they have their breaks
Not in one of our minging vans

Re: Meal breaks
The junior manager at ours always has to go out to the local McDonalds to get them their daily unhealthy food fix!
Like others have said, I like to take my full break half way round, just as I am beginning to flag a bit. Afterwards, I feel back up to speed again, for a while anyhow. How anybody can not take their break or leave it to the very end is beyond me, but then I am getting very long in the tooth!
