‘Your parcel’s in the bin’ note from postman

A MAN who works in IT security was stunned to return home to find a "Sorry you were out" note from the postman, saying a parcel had been left in his bin.

Mark Goddard opened the bin, used for his garden waste and discovered the package lay beneath a mountain of wet and smelly garden rubbish deposited by the gardener the same day.

Mr Goddard, 41, said the package contained two soggy batteries and a charger for his digital camera, ordered the week before.

"I read the message and laughed out loud in disbelief," he said.

Mr Goddard of Sylvan Close, St Leonards, said he had phoned Royal Mail to complain and a representative had apologised.

The items, worth £41.92, have dried out.

"It could have been anything, someone's photos or anything at all," he added. "You never know what's in the parcels. It could be credit card details or anything like that."

He said he was concerned that items which could help a thief commit identity fraud could be left outside a person's home.

A Royal Mail spokesman said it was normal policy to leave a parcel slip but not the parcel.

"A card should have been left confirming that we had attempted to deliver the item and offering a number of options including redelivery."

"The postmen and women at Ringwood delivery office will be reminded of the correct procedures to follow when delivering items of this nature.

"I would like to apologise to Mr Goddard for the problem he suffered with the delivery," she added.

Why do posties do this. IMHO this is an easy way for the management to get rid of us as unless you have written advice on your frame that it is ok to do this, then it could end up as a disciplinary offence and perhaps dismissal.

Slow news week in Dorset??

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Last weeks we had 2 sets of light bulbs. 1 lot had "Please leave in a safe place" printed on the address label. So I did, Callers Office. I must have brought back 7-8 of them. I'd have loved to see their faces when they arrived to collect their packets and saw the size of it. Still they wouldn't fit in their letter box and as per RM standards and instructions I returned them to the office.

I am in the callers office this week and its fun people queuing for 30 minutes at the busiest part of the day and I have great delight in handing them over saying "2 Free light bulbs" next please. The look of disappointment on their faces is priceless. Some are happy though.

These light bulbs - enviromentally friendly apart from the mercury content - are often sent without being requested as electricity companies try to show how green they are just before putting up their prices. Had a couple myself which hadn't been ordered and one did not work. Now that is good for the enviroment. Saved on electricity.

Just typical of customers who you try to help they kick it back in your face.
Lesson 1 -------- docket everything----no more problems!!
bring it back let them sort it out.

We are leaving our office so late now since the later start times I 739 nearly every packet and parcel because nobody is in between 9.30am and 2.00pm.

really pisses me off taking packets out only bring them back and then for the customer to say on a saturday if i see them " oh you can leave it in the shed etc." I then tell them they have to put it in writing that they are happy for me to leave packets on doorstep in shed etc. Nothing more ever happens after.

So why don't RM sell secure packet boxes people could install in their gardens/ give out postage-paid cards for instructions on where to leave packets/ offer breakfast or evening redelivery for a fee?

Could it be because those people 'running' Royal Mail have no interest in developing or improving the business? They're only there to take what money they can for themselves, as parasites do...
