I think people are being overly harsh here. Government organisations, NHS and a raft of major businesses have fallen VICTIM to this sort of thing. Royal Mail themselves last year.
Only a couple of years ago the CWU were asking members to use a claims company that they were in partnership with to make claims,no doubt getting a % themselves👀….how can they now ask members not to claim because the claim be against them?
Because it would be like punching yourself in the face, that’s why. I can’t speak for you but I pay my subs to the CWU so they can look out for my best interests. No one else is. Why on Earth would I want to create a financial burden to such an organisation?

I'm a union man through and through and the benefits of having a Union in the workplace far outweigh not having any. When we were on the picket lines there were other organisations striking at the same time - the NHS, trains, buses etc and there was talk of a general strike that might take place which never materialised. The biggest weakness of all our Unions is the fact that they don't collaborate with each other. A lot of our managers are in the Unite union and yet they crossed our picket lines and pocketed a bonus for having doing so. Surely our protest would have been much stronger if we all stood together as one collective unit? It would have been very difficult for Royal Mail to bring in relief people to mobilise and deliver all these parcels that come through our network. Regardless of anti-union laws since the 70s I think it's one of the biggest failures of the wider Trade Union movement.
On the face of it, shareholder value is the dumbest idea in the world.

Not really - just because the organisations you've mentioned get hit, doesn't mean CWU should be immune from criticism.
They've got off pretty lightly so far to be honest, a few harsh comments on this forum - I doubt the hierarchy have lost any sleep over it.

Do we have any update on this?
The day is gonna come when we’re all gonna have to testify.

It's still in progress. There's a lot of work to be done in the background.

No further action by ICO:

LTB 255/24 - https://www.cwu.org/ltb/ltb-255-24-cwu-cyber-incident/

Extract from LTB:
When such incidents take place, we are required, by law, to inform the ICO of the incident, subsequently the ICO can and in our case have, asked a series of detailed questions around the incident. Following this process we have now received a letter from the ICO that states as follows.

“Based on the information you have provided we have decided that regulatory action is not required in this case”

adding further that

“We now consider this matter closed”
